Suggestions where to get watch battery changed

Hi, You could try replacing it yourself. There are loads of places on the web that sell watch batteries. Just pop the back off & take out one of the old batteries. Google the number / code on there & see who stocks them. It should just be a direct drop in replacement, but some watches need to be...

    Slightly bent tip?

Metal fatigue sets in extremely quickly with any hardened steel, which is why I'd prefer to lose a few mil off the tip after re-grinding than try and bend it back. Done this a couple of times with sgian dubh blade blanks as well as a dirk. Also tried bending back to true on a couple of blades...

    Slightly bent tip?

Hi Brettguise, I definitely wouldn't try to straighten the tip, as it may snap, and even if it doesn't and you can bend it straight, it will always be a bit weaker. I would try carefully filing / grinding the 'bend' out of it, assuming the bend isn't too great. Just keep sighting along the spine...

Carrying a crooked knife in the field?

Try using a section of document binder spine. The blue or black stuff you get that holds a ream of documents together. Just stick it in boiling water to soften it up & slip it over the edge of the knife while hot. Once it cools, it'll retain the shape, now just cut off any excess & you're good...

    Peanut lighter O-Rings

Not sure where you could get a replacement from, but in the past I have used a small elastic band for an O ring which worked well. You could also try cutting out a leather washer to fit, which would last for ages. I've done this in the past to replace airgun breech seals. Almost as good as the...

    Wooden Rings

As long as you season it, the wood's surprisingly tough. It polishes up a bit like box, same mellow yellow colour with a soft lustre.

    Wooden Rings

I've made a few of these in the past from Elder. Just cut a half inch section & push out the pith. Once it's seasoned, it's a pretty tough wood & will take a fair polish. They can either be sculpted in a sort of signet ring shape, or left in the round. You could try carving a simple, pierced...

eBay bans sale of all knives....

Just thought I should point out that the "flick knife" Nicky Campbell was demonstrating on Watchdog was actually an assisted opener, or "semi-auto". These have been available to buy legally in the UK for years now (although this may have changed recently, not sure) but it was by no means a...

    Knitting Needles and Crochet Hooks

I remember making crochet hooks for my mum when I was a kid, and I used garden centre bamboo canes. Just cut it to length & split it into 6 or 8 long sections (splits really well, no tear-out). These you just shave round with a knife & cut the wee notch at the end, then sand smooth. Should work...
