    Black Bunnys at Kinloss

Remember about 20 years ago at Littondale near Pen y Gent, hundreds of black rabbits. About a fifty fifty ratio to the normal colour. As I entered a field they were swarming over a dry stone wall to escape. Never seen as many before or since.

    Modern bushcraft !?!

Isn't cost a consideration in this debate? For example I am amazed at the cost of a modern lightweight backpacking tent. I've done John o'Groats to Lands End sleeping under a Lichfield Viper that cost me pennies but was perfectly adequate for seven weeks in all conditions? Just a thought?

    They don't understand!

My apologies, I should have made myself clearer. If one possesses the skills to make fire - I always am in possession of firesteel on magnesium block but can also use other methods if I must. I still carry a couple of lighters and why not? I did not mean that folks should only carry a...

    They don't understand!

I really have to laugh at this accusation. I recently replied to a thread agreeing with the underdog. I then got a reply asking me to explain why. I said that I had no need, simply to read the OP's post and then read that I agreed with his points. I then recieved a PM from that member...

    They don't understand!

What does that mean exactly please? I am a 60 year old bloke who has a lot of experience. I have no desire to troll or accept something posted that is incorrect either. I am merely stating my opinions and think that you should apologise. Or am I not entitled to an opinion??

    They don't understand!

To be honest buddy, I can't appreciate why you would want to start a fire with a cramp ball when you could carry a lighter either??? I can also see why that if they have a GPS, It appears pointless to them to be able to use a map and compass. Perhaps giving them an insight into the need to...

    They don't understand!

Yet you have a computer? so why are you above us for not possessing a television? I can get TV programs, Live Sport etc. or TV replays on my computer? What is hard to understand about folks enjoying something you don't? Most kids today play games to the exclusion of educational TV anyway...

    They don't understand!

Good post and I too have had that warm glow many times!;) I though have a foot in both camps - apart from my love of hunting, fishing, camping and canoeing, I support my local football team. Just as you had that smile, I bet it never matched the one I wore standing at Wembley alongside my sons...

    Fear of the dark

I reckon Jonathan couldn't be harced personally although I suspect quite a few of us on here would be prepared to put our past experiences to good use to help solve the mystery. I'll put my name up.

    Can You Recall

Similar to Rob above but I can't recall the exact first time as it was over fifty years ago! But as 8-10 years olds we spent most weekends camping/fishing. Before I went to high school at 11 years old, I was solo camping also but mostly with my best pal. We had air rifles, catapults etc. never...

    tarping at campsites

A good alternative might be to take just the outer part of a two man tent? I've done this on lots of long distance walks, using my walking poles as the tent uprights and sleeping in my bivvi bag underneath. Gives you good protection and privacy yet very lightweight.

    Into the Wild

I could but you could also read what Richards thoughts were and put me down as agreeing with him.

    Into the Wild

I'm firmly of the same opinion as Richard. The film was what it was, an entertaining film - made by folks to make money and for no other reason. Not to portray reality, just to pamper to some peoples need to escape their own.

    Good book suggestions please....

It is absolutely awesome buddy and contains tons of stuff of interest. Several thousand prisoners never survived the train/sled journey just to get there before then slaving in the lead mines. His escape and endurance of the winter is true survival skills.;)

    Good book suggestions please....

How about ''As far as my feet will carry me'' based on the story of a German soldier who was sent to the Gulag lead mines at Cape Dezhnev in Siberia, convicted to 25 years of hard labor. He escaped, and travelled for three years, making his 11,000 km (6,800 mi) long way to Iran by sled, train...
