2010 election & changes to knife law

Well I for one enjoyed the debate, I can see how peeps get bored with the arguments that no doubt do seem circular, but I have also been worried by the tough talk on knives. I stay legal if I can, but try to find out what is legal and all you get is advice on why you should not carry a blade for...

    No condensation trails!

I was experiencing the same thrill driving home last night. Just uninterrupted blue sky...

    Anarchy in the UK

and thus ends my search for an avatar :) Although I will stick to my meek roots, and keep hiding rather than risk fighting. Always more bad guys than me, safer to avoid them to start with. Edit Of course I could see the benefits of a SGC for getting wild food in a survival situation. Spears...

    Anarchy in the UK

I think I would stay local, heading out into unfamiliar landscapes sounds like a recipe for problems. We keep spares in the house food / water wise, 6 months would be pushing it, but hopefully barring world catastrophe someone would have come and joined us by then with some of the air drops...

Stanley Hip Flask - Meths use

Word of warning (not that anyone suggested doing this) but dont use any bottles designed for drinks to hold meths. Too much risk of a kid getting hold of it and taking a swig, especially if its some form of soft drink bottle. I think its actually illegal to do so, and legally you should only use...

how many of us are first aid trained?

X medic volunteer, good few years covering rugby, or the far more dangerous netball (I kid not, running like nutters on concrete they broke more bones than a season of rugby in 1 day). Followed up by a few years of 4x4 rescue work at motorcross events. All civi, non professional trained...

    Belt Buckle Strike a light?

Wearing the belt, don't notice the 'hard' bits Rear view, closed Rear view open showing contents. Just popped together to prove concept. Belt is pretty good, made by eagle creek and £10. Contents are firesteel (would be better minus handle), folding knife (closed draws...

    Belt Buckle Strike a light?

Alternate idea, use a money belt and hide a mini kit / striker instead of money under the zipper. Always with you, and you can keep your trousers up :)

    Toastie bag cooking

Must have just had bad luck there, not that mine came from aldi but normally they last a good few months in the toaster doing cheese and ham toasties for the kids. (not bushcrafty I know, but they love em). Never thought of them as out and about kit, but thinking on it they are light...

Which kit item pushes your buttons ?

Cooking gear is the current target, battle between trangia (swedish army version) or the crusader cook thingy. However spent far too long browsing wood gas stoves, visiting camping shops (love them, not as much as army surplus though) and toying with ideas I see on here. Still not purchased...

    point of a survival kit?

I think that's the point, at least to me of the tin. If I had time to plan everything I would never need it. Its when things go off plan it may save you. Take the canoe blokes, with a tin containing waterproofed matches always in their jacket they would have got a fire going. Without it, on the...

    point of a survival kit?

I have one of Lofty based kits, same as on the DVD he did which I also have and enjoy. It lives wrapped in a plastic bag (seemed sensible addition as water collector) in the small inner pocket of my main coat. Next to my gloves (nirolex) and silver blanket. Day I got it I stripped it out, added...

What's the point in SAK saws?

I think the hook is meant 'officially' for carry plastic shopping bags without them cutting into your fingers. Idea you hold the SAK, not the bag. Works to, although I have also used it for tent pegs :) Must admit I had to look it up in the manual that came with my original SAK, now sadly...
