Ha, when people do.a "Pocket Dump" on here its like smartphones don't exist and everyone has a bit of reindeer hide to display a posh watch and so on, on.
Usually on a bit of wood, in their garden.
I've just got a not particularly smart, smartphone. It takes pix.
Oh and my watch is a Casio...
Most reliable metal detector known to mankind is a plumber borrowing one of my good chisels.
Guaranteed to find a nail with it.
Nowadays I bomb them off when they ask but I used to be far more helpful and I'd lend them the odd chisel.
Funny you mention this but I was thinking about ham radio and stuff like Meshtastic possibly being usefull in a grid down situation.
I'm kind of half thinking about Meshtastic a go, just out of interest to see its capabilities.
Yeah, I agree with all of that.
Having a bit of an idea what to do, who to contact and how to do so.
Few bits and bats like the ability to cook without electricity from the grid.
Water being off for a couple of days.
I'm all for a bit if contingency, just find the whole "Everyones doomed but us...
Aye but by the looks of it you all managed to resist causing chaos and mayhem during that 72 hours.
That suggests that people generally cope when the need arises.
Collapse of society? Naaah, not even close.
From my point of view the largest issues were caused by the conflicting governmental messaging, for the most part the population could see the reasons for lockdowns and coped quite well. It seemed that the government was the one panicking.
Again I'm...
Although there seems to be a weird "Everyone else but us won't manage" narrative going on here I reckon yer maybe flattering yourselves a tad.
Few years ago when Carlisle had bad flooding, power cuts for a few days and was mostly cut off by road also people all just got on with things.
There was...
I just wear my work Blaklader strides. Think the model is X1500.
Triple stitched on main seams, more pockets than I can find stuff to put in em and waay more hardwearing than the Snickers floorlayer keks I had before.
Not cheap at over a hundred quid but I wear em in site and they manage that...
"On the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that...
The woman in the top picture (Lisa) went to college with my wife and is a properly nice person.
Its easy to imagine the people involved in this hobby are all middle aged blokes but some of the most knowledgeable members who give out information without a big ego are the women.
Toddy being a...
I've seen some mention about using microcrystalline wax as part of a waterproofing wax mixture as it's more flexible and doesn't shed as much wax.
Not tried it yet though.
I've got a few bit of that kicking about for pretty much that reason, just off cuts out of the work skip.
As with many things, I've just not got round to it yet.
Next time I plan on walking the fells in winter bollock naked I'll try to remember that "Interesting" article.
For the rest of my life I'll put a hat on when I feel cold.
I have a very old Ajungilak Tyin 5 season bag bought from Survival Aids about 30 something years ago, it doesn't get frequent use so its still in good nick.
Not the lightest bag by a long shot but I've camped on the fells in subzero temperatures and its been fine.
I have two of Axminsters all steel chisels that I've had for yonks now.
Proper solid things and its worth noting just how big they are before buying as they're getting on for timber framers slick size.
Big chisel.
On a side note, I wonder how many songbirds have been killed because of architects obsession with massive windows on public buildings, especially the ones where the bird can see through to another massive window and therefore see daylight through it..
I've worked in quite a few public buildings...
Yonks ago I did Mag Particle testing, Dye Penetrant testing, Radiographic testing and radiographic viewing.
Had a bash at Ultrasonic just in the boilermakers I was working in at the time but never did the course, just to get an inkling of it.
We used to use wallpaper paste as the UT transducer...
