I remember reading a while back about fermenting pine or fir tips to create a syrup without using heat so that the true nature of the fir is revealed in the syrup.
I think if recommended Douglas Fir as a good one to start with. Has anyone tried this? Is it worth doing and what did you do with...
A quick carved pocket spoon inspired by the lovely kayak/canoe spoons at Spoonfest.
Surprisingly good to eat with & pretty indestructible I’m guessing.
I’m definitely doing some more like this so I might use this one for some kolrosing practice later.
I went as volunteer crew to Spoonfest 2025 & had a great weekend so thought I’d write a little report.
Spoonfest, for those who don’t know, is a celebration of all things Spoon. Held in Edale in the Peak District at the beginning of August each year.
I’ve been trying to go for a few years but...
Looking for a 2nd hand air pistol or compact air rifle in .20 calibre.
Ideally something like a Crosman ratcatcher with a takedown stock as it’s for controlling rats.
Come to the conclusion I like .20 as a pest control round so want to get another one.
Budget is minimal, so 2nd hand is the only...
I have a couple of pretty big pieces of Tyvek left after a project which might be useful for the ultralight makers on this forum.
Tyvek is a weatherproof membrane used in the building trade to seal roves & walls before cladding.
Amazing stuff. Almost impossible to tear but can be cut with a...
Recently came across a boxful of various airgun pellets of various calibres from various guns I’ve owned.
One is still sealed & most of the others are pretty much full I think.. not going to be light to post so £25 the lot to your door. See photos for details.
I’m not sure if this is the lightweight version or not as it has lost its bag & pins, guys etc before I got it. No holes, all the loops in place and reinforced. It’s in very good condition but too big for my current needs so I’m moving it on. £35 tyd. Offers via DM will be considered. Not really...
Amazingly I’ve been accepted ax a volunteer this year at Spoonfest. Is anyone else from BCUK going? If you’re in Cumbria, or passing through on the way, do you fancy sharing costs of transport?
Message me. Cheers, Simon
As above. Original Imalent 3000mAh rechargeable battery 18650.
Came with the torch & got put in a drawer & forgotten. Never been charged. Perfect condition . Now sold .
Very little used Rock & Run Down sleeping bag made by Rab. This was a spare bag for when it was too warm for my North Face one but in fact has only been slept in half a dozen times and always with a liner.
Usual top quality construction from Rab, with thoughtful touches like a down filled...
I’m getting back into carving some spoons but I always lose momentum after a while when working on my own.
Does anyone else in South Cumbria or North Lancs want to help set up a small informal spoon carving group?
Potentially there’s a suitable venue in Windermere if you’re interested.
It would...
Happy New Year all.
Just wondering if any of you got any fun bushcrafty stuff for Christmas?
I thought mine was going to be all dull this year & then the family gave me a voucher for one of Barn’s spoon carving courses in February.
Result!
Ben Orford Field knife with leather magnetic neck sheath on paracord. Very little used as the antler tine is just too small for my big paws. The blade is spot on. Very sharp & holds the edge well. Rounded back on the blade so better for whittling etc I think.
This would make a great Christmas...
I’m a confirmed ground dweller so I have absolutely no use for this kind birthday gift. Aiming to pass it on, at a substantial saving, to someone else who will make use of it.
Eagles Nest Outfitters Travel Nest & Straps Combo which “includes everything you need to hang out & relax on the go” inc...
Sweet little Fox neck knife in good order. Nice & sharp & textured Micarta handle with fitted kydex sheath & the chain it came with. I’ve got the box for it too. Used very little as it is just a bit small for my huge paws, but it would make a nice sloyd or backup for a wander in the woods.
Now...
Inherited this compass when my Dad passed so there’s a certain amount of sentiment attached & I’d like to be able to use it. The bubble has got bigger over the last few years & I’m wondering if it can be refilled & resealed at all? Anyone know?
My Dad taught me to use a map & compass & I must...
Hi all.
Going through my carving kit as I’m going to start again ( again!) with doing some spoons so thought I should give them all a quick strop & check over.
I’d forgotten all about this very tight curve blade I bought quite a while ago. I obviously don’t need it as I never bothered to put a...
Hi all.
Thinking I need to let my Duluth pack go as I’ve not really used it for over a year.
Trouble is I don’t know which one it is. In very good nick but has a few stains here & there. Built to last!
Any help much appreciated so I can work out a price to ask for it.
Thanks in advance.
Hi all.
I’m looking for a good one or two day knife making course in the North of England.
I went & forged an axe with Dave Budd & totally loved it. Now I want to do one or ideally two kitchen knives for myself in high carbon steel & use some Jabroc for the handles. It’s a six-eight hour drive...
Big thanks to Kepis for posting a willow spoon earlier in the week.
Our willow lost a branch a while ago in the storms and I got inspired to go and cut a few pieces to carve.
I have some lovely knives, but haven’t used them for ages so apologies to Ben Orford, Nic Westerman & Alf Branch for...
