I only think that is really practical and doable if one has land to erect a fence / gate - In which case one has probably mastered some sort of fence/gate shenanigans. I think the target demographic needs to be more despondent suburbanite.

I maybe out of touch - is rewiring a plug something people can or cannot do in this day and age? My gut reaction is a No , or the next thing maybe " Put up shelves " or " Unclog sink "

National Risk Register/National Resilience Update - Nothing new to us.

Im not surprised Nihilism can be somewhat of a contributor to those wishing for a change if change by own decision seems undoable. Lots of pressure on people currently in western society.

How long between initial planting and fruiting do you think.?

I guess ultimately , raising a rabbit , chicken , duck and then humanely dispatching it would be a path of stewardship. Also quite the test of resolve for many I think. Having been raised on a small farm I don't have the inability to empathetically detach. But I do get why people do.

Ultimately as a vibe I think what the skills should be is if you imagined yourself as the two characters in ' The Good Life ' - what journey were they on ? What did they want to learn ? How did they learn etc.

I'd probably steer very wide of anything remotely being described as a weapon. Tends to get Police rather excitable. What could be crafted that would be in the ballpark of teaching/learning a useful skill?

That's a good point. If people were advised ( as follows the plan at the correct time of the year ) the plants they are growing , the herbs they have grown and dried and the animal they have butchered could all come together into a seasonal meal - a culmination of activities with an end shared...

You've made quite a few assumptions and are overthinking / over assuming on an as of yet undefined syllabus. All I'm casting for currently is ideas , I can sort out the logistics and " how to " aspect. I've never said you'll gain mastery of a skill over a single weekend , but it's all about...

Agree with this - I think it would have to be a final " work towards " step for some people after the butchering and processing chicken carcass etc. Just to get them familiar with handling and anatomy. It still surprises me how many newbie homesteaders have a definitely issue with the...

Do they take a long time to become fully mature ? Which maybe why I'm only noticing them at country estates and not the local allotment.

Ref Mulberry - I noticed one in an estate garden the other day and was impressed by the size and volume of the fruit it produced. Are they difficult to grow ? Doesn't seem to be commonly grown ?

Anyone a fan of tinned fish?

I did notice this the other day when I grabbed a few cans - if the change is due to dwindling fish stocks I can understand , but it does seem to be a sleight of hand in it's can/content markings. The only downside for me ( and id imagine others ) is if it's not as high in healthy heart...

    What did you buy today?

I agree , it's weird looking. It's a deadlift jack. Although I don't mind lifting a barbell , loading and unloading the plates ( when on the ground ) is a massive PITA , so you use this to attach at an angle to the barbell then use the leverage to pivot it off the ground for loading ...
