Alone TV Show - New Nessmuk trio?

Nessmuk's canoes compete with modern kevlar/carbon fibre ones weight wise. It does seem to be designed for animal processing. Slipjoint was the cooking and carving knife. The double-bladed axe was for wood and bone.

Alone TV Show - New Nessmuk trio?

There does seem to be an odd thing in the canoe world, in that he is a big deal, however his canoes seem to be ignored. Anyone at the Wilderness Gathering, check out Fudge the boat builder as he is the closest I have seen for how they are described.

Alone TV Show - New Nessmuk trio?

One of my overriding thoughts was that the show was very much survival with moments of Bushcraft. Does not Bushcraft always have an idea of moving into the wilderness and building a cabin in the woods? Combined with an idea of moving through the environment like Ötzi or similar. You are allowed...

Alone TV Show - New Nessmuk trio?

I was kind of surprised by how many people did give up their knife. I also wonder what would Nessmuk change? I may have to do some research on what he used that double headed axe and those knives. I have always wondered why Leatherman does not offer a build your own or mod your multi-tool...

Swagman Scarf - New take on Poncho?

That is a reimagining of Mors' scarf. Greencraft makes a version of that. It's basically a big bag of parachute nylon which can be a scarf, debris mattress bag, sleeping bag etc.

What is an every day carry really when you get down to it?

Hope everything ok? Is EDC just a possibles pouch or bag? Scouts did it to me with 'Be Prepared' and I blame MacGyver for making it worse! :) Something that has always annoyed me is being asked for tablets by people who get headaches... I am feeling a little kinder as I did manage to go to the...

Alone TV Show - The more you know, the less you carry...

I have been looking at some of the Alone TV show stats and it raises some interesting questions: 1. Mental strength is very important and a skill that needs training and developing. 2. Decision making - (Maybe OODA) is another skill that needs training and developing. Resources are limited being...

Alone TV Show - New Nessmuk trio?

Due to having met some of the people in this season of Alone, I have actually watched it. This caused some research, which led me to a thought: Is the new Nessmuk Trio - an axe, saw, and multi-tool?

    Dumb phones

I love my tech however my Motorola Razer will always have a special place in my heart. Basically, the flip phone used in tv and movies still. A 5g dumb phone which could be used as a hot spot would be a brilliant outdoor phone as you could then carry a tablet for all of the smart stuff.

Anyone have experience with the polish lavvu or canvas tent equivalents?

JJ Outdoors and Rough Timber are worth checking out. I think a lot of them end up modded. The Baker tent style looks cool.

Am I carrying too much gear.

If I remember correctly, there is one place (in Scotland) that is not connected by road. I have heard 10 miles mentioned in that you never get further than that from civilization in the UK.

    Eurohike Sandero 4

I am going to rip off Paul Messner's idea of having one lot of good pegs and using them for everything. I have had a few tent bags with a one way zip which is just insane. Getting a tent into its bag in the wild is down to lots of use and good weather. I tend to have a few heavyweight bin bags...

It was Scouting that got me into Bush Crafting, can any other claim the same?

The British army knife was our favourite when you could get them for next to nothing. I went all the way from cubs to leader. Queen's Scout was before my time, however, I knew one and once a year he got an invite to a palace garden party. Girls were always in Scouts as they organised...

    Survival Tins - Updates

I knew about that site, however, for some odd reason did not look at a lot of his videos. I wonder about taking something the size of a 2 mag pouch rather than the water bottle pouch I think Lofty uses. With things like a Trangia mess tin or similar could be interesting.

Pump Drill and Bear comes clean

I learnt a long time ago that if it works for you, do it. My Scout Master was a master at the slow build fire which he tried to teach me and basically failed. Another Scout Master showed me his pre-build technique which works for me every time. I am also adding one of those match super lighters...
