National Risk Register/National Resilience Update - Nothing new to us.

When looking at things at this national level, I personally see a theme repeating that makes me uncomfortable. There are lots of very vocal "Something needs to be done!" followed by a very quiet "and somebody else needs to do it..."

National Risk Register/National Resilience Update - Nothing new to us.

I can understand how this subject area might be a bit difficult to accommodate, if you are viewing things from a pure bushcraft perspective. The whole National Risk Register and associated topics are focused at the macro national level, rather than at the more practical aspects that you could...

    Plug & Play Solar

The DNO is under a legal obligation to fix problems on their network, especially if it impacts multiple properties. If you are seeing voltage fluctuations (outside of 216V to 253V) or frequency fluctuation (50Hx +-1%) they you can point this out to them. At the very least they can place a data...

    Plug & Play Solar

This is the route I am going down - its a sort of hybrid solution. Without a substantial investment, I know I can't power things like the electric shower - I need the grid for that. Likewise the immersion heater. However I can power the boiler and pumps (in theory) from the battery banks and...

    Carnation Condensed Milk

Hated the stuff with a passion. Was so sickly. My grandma used to add it to her tea and my grandpa used to put a dash of Johnny Walker in a glass of it.

    Plug & Play Solar

Actually can make the grid more unstable, as described in the youtube video above. Plug in solar are outside of the control of the DNO, so they have no way of balancing production.

    Plug & Play Solar

If you are in rented accommodation then an option might be to go for an offgrid solution? This is kind of what I am doing. Get something like an Aferiy or Ecoflow power station, and associated solar panels. Use the panels to charge the power station, then run devices off of the power station...

    Medicine shortages

There is a national shortage of quite a few drugs at the moment. Was having this conversation with my local pharmacist, as they had totally run out of paracetamol and were having problems getting supplies. Small independent pharmacies are particularly finding it difficult as they dont have the...

    Plug & Play Solar

Its being sold as plug and play, but there are nuances. The kit itself is pretty much plug and play - you buy the box, plug in some panels, then plug it into a mains socket. Simple. Its what comes next after you plug it in that is being glossed over. If you have a nice new house, with modern...

    Plug & Play Solar

This is what is blocking me, I believe. We have an old circuit board with RCDs that aren't designed for current flowing back to the grid. Plus, we still have an old style mechanical electricity meter.

    WiFi area extender

I have a dead spot reaching into the garden. As such i use a Linksys power line wi-fi extender. One power line plugs into the mains near my router. The other plugs into a socket on the first floor, in the bedroom that backs onto the garden. Works a treat.

    LoraWan

It has huge promise as a decentralised messaging system, running on very low power kit. However it's very immature and unstable. There is a growing user base, but before it can become really useful it needs to mature. To mature it needs more adoption - there are too many holes in the mesh. But...

    Verifying browser and redirecting?

It's very probably a browser challenge or app monitor. Whoever runs the site has probably installed something but it might be misconfigured. Because it's intermittent then it's probable a cache or load balancer issue. It's there to try and stop things like bots, agents and scrapers. I am on...

Best Concerts Youve Ever Been Too

The Enid. Now there's a name from the past. I met Bob via Barcley James Harvest. Nice chap. They also had a recording studio (the lodge in, i think, suffolk) that we used a couple of times.

    I, Robot , I Soldier.

There is a lot of nonsense being talked about AI at the moment, plus a lot of stuff that is not being talked about, that ought to be. Until very recently I worked in the data and AI industry. To the extent that I managed to AI myself out of a job and took early retirement..... There is a view...
