Nessmuk - George Washington Sears YouTube series.

The axe when viewed closely from the top definitely has a meatier side (rhs in the below image) and a thinner side(lhs). It is probably in the region of 1/8inch difference, tapering down towards the bevel. Both bevels will be similar in length and from the side the bevels appear almost...

Make a fishing rod with a leatherman.

Wouldn't have taken much to cut a "round", bore a hole in middle and cut a v notch around the circumference to hold the line. Would not have been as smooth as plastic spool but programme allows you to make choices and that type of spool is quite common for holding 300m of line.

    British folder?

If you are looking for something simple to replace your locking Opinel for urban use or for more formal occasions, how about a Boker Plus Tech 1, scales in micarta, titanium, carbon depending on model and price from £30 to £70.

    Coke Can fire

The difficulty is that the bottom of a coke can is not parabolic, merely spherical and as such does not have a sufficiently concentrated foci to generate the heat required, especially in our climate.

    Wild fires - Survival Skills.

As noted above having a clear exit is paramount, whether doors or windows. One thing I don't understand (and never have) is that all commercial fire doors open out wards for ease of exit should a fire be taking place but all domestic external fire doors open inwards which makes it more...

Classic kit no longer in production, but you wish were.

They produced the standard military pattern smocks (in multiple camo patterns), their own SASS Smock, their Kit Karry Smock (upgraded storage), para smock, as well as soldier 95 pattern issue uniforms and would customise/make you basically anything you wanted based on the starting point of one...

    Plug & Play Solar

Well they work, was up the side of Loch Ness, on mixed cloudy/sunny interval days. I attached them in parallel, with a pair of Y splitters and joined to a 3m MC4 to XT60 connector into the power station. Best in late morning result was a constant 197w (about 11ish) when had a short period of...

Alone TV Show - New Nessmuk trio?

Unlike the earlier visions of Ötzi as a tribal chief or similar on some great journey, what is more likely is he was one of the local tribal hunters (i.e. common man), out for 2-5 days from the village on a hunt, possibly with others, and whom appears to have had a fatal altercation and then...

Alone TV Show - New Nessmuk trio?

What you require for well provisioned camping is different than what you require for survival with very limited resources. For Alone, especially when dealing with stainless steel snare wire a multi tool makes sense, especially with 1 or 2 blades (straight and serrated), mini saw, scissors...

    Water purification -

Sterilisation tabs bought bulk are inexpensive and much more convenient for use as we tend to filter only a few litres at a time and 100 tabs in packets weigh maybe 1oz at most. Last ones I bought were £5 for 200 tablets, or 2.5p per litre. As noted above bulk purchase of sterilisation powder...

SASS Smocks, made to order, in custom camo, specs and size were the pinnacle but we didn't realise how good we had it!

    Plug & Play Solar

Finally pulled the plug on ordering 2x130w flexible panels for my Bluetti Elite 100 v2 as an upgrade to my existing Allpowers 60w foldable panel. Will get them out at the weekend and see what they can do.

    What fuel do you use?

TLUD wood pellet stove using wood pellets on top of a silicone covered fibre glass mat. Due to nature of the fuel there are no embers\sparks that come off into the air and mat protects the ground from scorching and embers.

The Elusive “One Knife” for Bushcraft…?

Settled for the moment on the White River Fire Craft Puukko as my go to edc bush craft knife. This is again a smaller than average sized knife, 3.75 inch blade, S35VN, scandi grind. Definitely a can do most things knife, but sits within a 4 tool system of SAK (with saw), Puukko, large folding...

MoD Survival Knife... Not such a pig afterall

I have the Webtex one, much better guard (properly fitted between handle and blade). Don't forget to reprofile the blade to remove mass, I gave mine a high convex grind and it makes a decent chopper. On your knife the high grind would start just above the NATO marking arrow. Can also use the...
