    Worst witnessed Bushcraft injury.

Nope. I am definitely into my second childhood if I ever left my first one but a knife is not my first choice of cutting tool. Also, there is very little “Out there” that I have the right to cut. Yes I cut up kindling. Yes I cut cord, guyline and rope. Yes I cut food. That about covers...

    Carnation Condensed Milk

A memory has emerged: While I wouldn’t give rucksack room to the nasty stuff, I do remember seeing it in tubes. Is that still available? Very convenient I would have thought. (Off topic - it’s how I carry passata, garlic or ginger into camp - in tubes.) Edited to add: I’ve found condensed...

    Brewing coffee?

Hmmmmmm. Quite apart from variables to the coffee: The bean, The method, The grind, The water, The temperature and The brew time, …… there are various pollutants that some folk add in various quantities such as milk, sugar, syrups and alcohol. I’ve even heard rumours of folk putting condensed...

    New Mora Farnas

I know nothing about these knives but: Am I right in remembering Mors Kochanski telling us that the spine of his knives was left unfinished so that an entire process could be eliminated and the low price maintained? (Sometimes both brain cells connect, sometimes not.) Could the finish here be...

National Risk Register/National Resilience Update - Nothing new to us.

I believe that you are seriously underestimating peoples abilities to overcome. In there of a major system failure we wouldn’t go back to some sort of amiss Marple era. We would ALL be Modern people with modern understanding of what is possible. Those who understand the fundamentals of...

So - who is ready for the Moot?

I’ll be getting there on Friday so that’s when I’ll be ready :) I have a permanent camp list in my phone with a space for variables like workshops. Nothing is ticked off until it’s in the car. I always forget something. It’s such a relief when I discover what it is :lmao: See you there John.

    Worst witnessed Bushcraft injury.

It’s true that the various rescue programmes on tv give the impression that most of us have suffered some trauma or other. While it may not be not true - there is still time

National Risk Register/National Resilience Update - Nothing new to us.

Nearly all of us. We’d share tools, knowledge and stuff. It’s happened in the lifetime of many of us here.

National Risk Register/National Resilience Update - Nothing new to us.

If it went in for years there would be soooooooo many talks at your local community hall on how to work around it. Little businesses would spring up maybe making shoes out of old tyres (as in the poorer African countries.) Lamps from bottles, shed illuminators made out of plastic drinks...

National Risk Register/National Resilience Update - Nothing new to us.

Been there, done that for the whole of a freezing winter in an all electric apartment. Anyone else remember the miner’s strike(s)?

    Planning Derwentwater for 60th Bday

Given that you have a year to plan, you should be able to book a camp site for yourself and Hotel / Self catering for your family but I’d do it soon. Loads of information on line. In addition to your exertions may I recommend high tea at Brysons for your fathers birthday (but BOOK!) And Look...

    Worst witnessed Bushcraft injury.

A risky thing to say just before Summer Moot but perhaps, counterintuitively, Bushcraft is safer than many other activities or its participants are more aware.

    Brewing coffee?

I usually have two Zylis ( previously Smart Cafe) mugs with me. If there are more of us I’ll pour into an SS mug for the others. I have a Smart Cafe mug but they are getting old and the seal is getting stiff. It’s OK for large leaf tea.

    Brewing coffee?

For many of us coffee isn’t just a flavoured drink, it’s a drug (like alcohol or nicotine) taken for its effect. It is still a highly enjoyable flavoured drink with a lot of nuanced flavours that risk being lost in the making. If I drink decaf I keep getting the feeling that I’ve just put an...

    Brewing coffee?

As biscuit manufacturers reduce the amount of increasingly expensive cocoa in their “chocolate” coverings they have been forced label it “chocolate flavoured coating.” Instant coffee could be labelled similarly as “coffee flavoured water.” As for decaf ………. However: If you enjoy it that’s...

    Worst witnessed Bushcraft injury.

As an industrial first aider I’ve dealt with a lot of incidents, but Bushcrafting / Climbing / Walking / Camping - nothing serious. Twisted ankle (but walked off the hill) Scrapes and cuts that a sticking plaster manages. Probably the worst wasn’t exactly an injury - a very bad case of the...

National Risk Register/National Resilience Update - Nothing new to us.

I’m not a prepper but just reading what is said on line - I’m not sure that many preppers know what they are prepping for. There doesn’t seem to be an “End Game.” (My information is limited.) It seems to some extent to be wishful thinking: that “the establishment” will be removed and we shall...

National Risk Register/National Resilience Update - Nothing new to us.

Don’t you believe it. No, they wouldn’t do it your way but they’d get by and get by well. It’s easy to forget what the WW2 returning soldiers said about Teddy boys and later the 60’s “puffters”. [That was an historical reference to a generalisation by more than one of my neighbours when I was...
