    Banned dogs - thoughts

Collie here, too. She's much more readily controlled off-leash. But obviously, there are circs where off-leash just isn't sensible. We hike the ravines a lot, where she is in her element, cyclists and coyotes or not. But, if she sees a white SUV she will try to chase and eat it. So, it's...

    YOYTi. (Why titanium?)

Very fond of my LMF Ti sporks, stashed away in different useful places. One at work. Watching a good vid on fermentation at the moment ... no Ti involved, sadly. Though I can see a case being made for a great big Ti bowl. :)

    Banned dogs - thoughts

There's a school of thought that says dogs misbehave on leash (barking at others etc) because they feel trapped by the leash and can't control the situation spatially (i.e. get out of the way etc.) because of it. No clue if it's actually like true or anything. Dog psychology isn't my field, but...

There's these Ollas, Jonno70 https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/garden/water-and-irrigation/116523-3-litre-olla?item=XC486&gad_source=1 Might be the basis of an idea

    YOYTi. (Why titanium?)

I imagine there would be a variety of ways of doing it, but the heat rising from the lot liquid in a Ti mug might produce a greater temperature at the lip than a SS mug (all other things being constant) for the reasons of density and thinness that you give ... is what I thought

    YOYTi. (Why titanium?)

My physics isn't what it could be. But I remember my dad showing me how to do a differential heat treatment on a knife by just warming the back of the blade (blade upwards)on the kitchen gas hob. He explained the difference between heat and temperature as a way of understanding how the edge of...

    YOYTi. (Why titanium?)

Funny that. Ti mugs always manage to sear away portions of my mouth and tongue, but not SS - at least not the dinged old Tatonka I've carted for 20 years :) Never mind. I don't think I have ever taken a hot drink straight from an ally mug.

    YOYTi. (Why titanium?)

there, in a nutshell. the heat transfer is just too efficient pretty on a knife though, where a few grams shaved does make a real deftness difference ... and you can get some pretty and colourful effects on it

    EDC Pens?

Took me a while to realize that I had settled on things some time ago. Parker Sonnet fountain pens. An ideal working pen for what I do (grading, report writing etc.). I have a Parker Cisele ballpoint pen and (a recent addition) a Rotring 800 pen. And for the pocket, Fisher x750s. Was big on the...

    Best Bushcraft Knife to Buy?

I very much like the Brisa 95mm Trappers and 85mm Elvers as sorted-out outdoors knives. The O1 Trappers I particularly like. And, I have a marginal preference for the flat ground versions (which are plentifully robust), over the scandi ground versions (which are more conventionally what you...

    Sentimental EDC

I have a bit of amber I bought in a run down antique shop in Margate. I keep it in my pencil case. Also a coffee spoon. It attached itself to me rather than vice versa, but I do find it endlessly useful for all sorts of things, which occasionally includes stirring sugar into coffee.

    What did you buy today?

Excellent :) I pressed Pay Now on a Paramo Velez smock from Foothills. Just got to wait for it to show up now. I am anxious about this one, as I have been faffing about and not buying one for maybe three years. Couldn't decide between the light and the regular versions. I know what that usually...

Woolly Pully vs Fleece vs Ranger Shirt as Mid-Layer?

You could take a look at the lightweight insulation layers made by Patagonia or Arcteryx - 100/200 wt fleeces, down 'sweaters', artificial fibre versions of same. Many options there as starting points. Haglofs, Helly Hansen etc, etc offer more affordable options. If you are looking for a...

    Limited Canned Goods.

Re. cans specifically, I know this sounds weird and contrarian, but I think that I'd keep to very highly-flavoured stuff and ingredients for making sauces. Things like smoked sprats, anchovies (in fact canned fish in general), chipotle peppers in adobo, very good quality tomatoes/tomato paste...
