    Imgur blocks UK access

It'd be good if the UK, or just Europe in general, were to sink a lot of funds into developing their own large language model. Devise a commonly owned AI, then Musk, Zuckerberg, Altman etc. can go whistle

    What did you forage today?

Just heard on the BBC that some sheep in north Wales died for chomping on this year's bumper crop of acorns

    Imgur blocks UK access

It's possibly a bit of a performance on Imgur's part. Lots of private internet companies don't like national governments interfering in their right to facilitate the easy circulation of kiddie porn, racism and threats of violence ... no matter how ineffectively.

    What did you buy today?

Big bottle of Gekkeikan. Making an aubergine curry with lots of ginger and chillies in. Just the stuff to go with it.

What can I make for dinner using chicken broth?

The other thing you could try is put in a cup of pearl barley and cook til it's done, maybe add a can of black beans too. This will all depend on how tasty your stock is, which I am sure it is. But maybe have half a Knorr stock cube to hand. :)

    Sticky msr hubba....anyone fixed theirs?

Do some tests. Paper will do. I have used more like a 40% sealant : 60% solvent ratio in the past to get a lighter layer. You can possibly go further with that, so long as it is well mixed

Responsible behaviour as the world changes.

Same in Canada. Often there are temporary bans. You'll see signs indicating the danger level and status. Mind, we get a lot of fires here. Always have had them, but there are more now and they are more destructive. (FYI - in 2023, 15 million hectares were destroyed by fires in Canada. That's an...

    Buffalo clothing - Ben Fogle

I tried a few years back to get a green hooded belay jacket from Buffalo. Like a special. They agreed and settled a price for shipping, then ... nothing. I chased a couple of times, but left it after a bit. Glad to see they now offer the jacket as standard. Trouble is the price has slipped out...

    Surname Origins

Apparently Stone is an old Scandinavian name ... meaning 'stone'. I always thought it meant 'comes from the town' I blame AI searches for all such confusions

    Open question - Financial

Great Reset? Great Recession, maybe more like it. Though, three years ago I was peeing myself laughing at a friend of mine who ran down to the gold sellers down at Canada Place. There was a queue of people buying ingots to stick in their safes. Price of gold has doubled since. Mind, I...

Folder with just a knife and saw?

Yes, true, but you can still get the old Pumas relatively affordably. That Game Warden above will cost around 99USD new and the blade (which used to be 440C) is in 1.4116 steel (same as x50crmov15) - which I think is the same as in Victorinox - tough, corrosion resistant, easy to sharpen. A...

Folder with just a knife and saw?

Kneissler seem to have stopped making their knife saw combo. I have one somewhere. Otherwise, Hubertus or Weidmannsheil or Puma or even Linder might be the people you are looking for. German folding hunting knives, often stag-handled. Lovely, lovely things. Also the Boker Optima is a heavy...

Overseas Coping with heat - Any advice for a northern Englander?

Table salt for sodium, food grade epsom salts for magnesium, lo-sodium table salt for potassium (KCl in there). Just a bit of each in some OJ. At a pinch, if you need it quick, a bag of crisps will do you for sodium and potassium. For cooling, assuming your A/C is down, a big bowl of water in...

    Desk top magnifying glass

Hope you can help. I am looking for a large desktop magnifying glass; with an adjustable stand, like. I am pretty clueless in this. I don’t know if you could use same one to read with as, say, change a battery in an iPod or tie a fly. So, if anyone has got a recommendation, I’d be most obliged.
