    Best Homemade dehydrated meals.

This may not count: a handful of couscous, half a chicken stockcube, a handful of any freeze dried veg. Add hot water and a bit of dried sausage.

    Time

I enjoy the change in seasons (more perhaps than the seasons themselves :)), and I like the resets brought by changing the clocks - kind of emotional really. But, as above, it doesn't matter unless you work or live in a city. Here it is has become politicized over the years as a talking point...

    Open question - Financial

Well that may or may not be quite so. :) This is anecdotal, but I have friends, different ones, who have told me that they couldn't sell their gold when they wanted to in the early 2000s when the price dropped a bit. Just got faced with polite refusals by dealers who didn't want to fuel a...

    Open question - Financial

Except you'll have to sell the gold first to realize it as currency, which will incur some fees. Worth noting that if there is a sudden drop in the price of gold, this will cheer gold dealers. But if it is too sharp, they may not buy - just shut up shop for a bit til the crisis passes. You are a...

    Open question - Financial

I think with a windfall £20K, I'd probably invest in my future comfort by getting some decent furniture. A table, a sofa, a good reading chair, coffee table, bed frame, maybe a lamp, mix of new and vintage ... though that'll more than eat it up.

    Salt

That low sodium salt is positively good for you though. Uses potassium instead. The kids visited the Salzburg saltmines during their month in Munich in the Summer. They bought some back and it is very excellent. The first time I realized that salt has varying tastes was during a slightly...

    Fad items of Bushcraft

Norrona Recon jacket. Was that a fad? I got a second-hand one 2008 - ish. Still bombproof. I guess you buy one and it lasts forever.

    Brewing coffee?

Years ago, a friend, who would often invite me over for scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, introduced me to mud coffee. Put sugar and that finely ground, mediterranean coffee directly into a cup. Add boiled water. Let it sit for a bit. Give the bottom of the cup a bit of a tap on the table to...

    Waterproof rucksacks - 30litres

SealLine and Patagonia for off-the-shelf. But, I agree with the drybag/rubblebag approach. Since I have moved from BC, I haven't been rained on once when on a jaunt. Used to be I'd put my drybags in other drybags

    Deodorising boots

Another way is to wet them and put them in the microwave for a minute. Careful, as it will soften the glue temporarily. But it works very well. I think Spike Milligan recommended peeing into them until full and letting them stand overnight. Try and remember that you have done this though; in...

Wanted Wanted: Dutch Army Hooped Bivvy

I don't have one, but your post prompted me to search 'carinthia bivvy'. Kind of wish I hadn't. Bit of a rolls royce but more than 800 euros. I would so love one for stargazing in the cold https://www.carinthia.eu/en/observer-plus-p2169/

    Imgur blocks UK access

I am still in the process of finding out about this. How will the ID track your movements? Will you be expected to use it when you are in shops making payments for instance? Reason I ask is that in Canada, some kind of gov't produced photo ID (usually driving license) is required for things...

Does anyone make a good quality baseplate compass anymore?

I've a few Sunntos - each replaced because I'd lost (though later found) the other. Ranging in price, they have all been just great. Maybe I have been lucky. The A10 and M3 are perfectly fine. The MC-2 is a bit of a handful, but I sometimes prefer it.
