    I, Robot , I Soldier.

I also agree but politians don’t see it that way, hence the lack of investment in the infantry. There were 55 infantry battalions when I was in. The army was 160,000

    I, Robot , I Soldier.

It may start off like that but sadly there is always a need for face to face human fighting, always has been and always will be necessary.

    Are you a GEARDO?

Have been but now recovering (except for coats). Have not bought a knife or hillwalking item for at least 2 years except to replace a broken item but even then can’t remember if I have bought anything for that time. Now except for fleece tops it just if it’s worn out I replace it only.

    Alternatives to ventile?

It was but light and windproof and dried very quickly. As long as you kept it away from barbed wire it lasted forever
  16. MikeLA

    Alternatives to ventile?

Bought mine from survival aids in 1988 must of had it for 30 years use. To me better than ventile

    Music

Nature has its own music. That’s why I don’t like sleeping in tents enjoying the sight and sounds of the woods or the hills.

My probably annual winter jacket recommendation thread!!

My winter coat is a Buffalo SP6 or Belay. BUT I do like and use a fleece a Rab double pile, high collar and warm. Also find when I used a down coat it rained and I froze, just something to remember in our British weather

    Snugpak FJ6

I still use and favour the sleeka/softie. A lot cheaper doesn’t have all the bells and whistles in new fits and styling, just a comfortable coat. The big plus it’s just as warm

    Naturism

I was walking up Ben Nevis camped at the tarn near the top when we saw what turned out to be two young German ladies skinny dipping. Needless to say we very quickly ran over and introduced ourselves. Funny how a conversation can bring back funny memories.
