Do you know if, like the standard Farmer, the main blade is thicker than normal? I have the Alox Farmer, which I got specifically because of the sturdier blade, and was tempted by the X but haven’t been able to ascertain whether the blade is thinner to accommodate the scissors?

I threw caution to the wind, put some Coleman’s in it, started it outside first and brought it in when all seemed safe. Must say, I’m very impressed- could certainly see me getting another so I can have a pair, one either side of the mantle piece. I have a miner’s type lamp, actually a GPO one...

I see why a cap for the wick is necessary now, it’ll evaporate like nobodies business. I’ll have to rig something up. I got my Colemans off Amazon, not cheap…at all!

I did find that thanks, that’s where I got the white spirits from, the dictionary definition of mineral spirits (mentioned in the text) references white spirit.

When you say Coleman’s, you do mean this, the fuel that’s similar to petrol, what I use in my Svea 223r? Thought I’d check before burning the old house down! :oops:

Just received in the post today: a vintage French Pigeon Lamp. A lovely brass lamp that’s about 9” tall and has, I think, its original glass shade. It has a handle on the back, you can use that to fasten it to a nail or hook on the wall. I think they’re meant to burn the equivalent of white...

I used my British army medium weight FECSA sleeping bag inside the BA bivi bag, in a German Army pup tent when it was cold enough to freeze my milk and a banana which were outside my tent (plus it was damp as I was camped on a peat bog with water logged woodland). I only had thermal long johns...
