I'm heading up to Swedish Lapland (150km inside the Arctic circle) on Thursday for 5 days to enjoy the celebrations with Abbe. Does anyone else have any plans this year?

At the bushmoot last year Mors Kochanski invited me to join him teaching in schools in Dawson Creek and Tumbler Ridge area of British Columbia. Of course I took him up on his offer and have just returned from my visit. I flew to Edmonton, Alberta, where I spent a couple of days visiting...

Unfortunately I will not make it this year as I am teaching at the "World Scout Jamboree 2007". I hope everyone has a really great time though!

It could be a Magpie's nest which has fallen out of a tree, as they build a top over their nest.

It's possible that they are Sawfly larvae, but you might like to look here; http://www.whatsthiscaterpillar.co.uk/ and I will check a book I have at work tomorrow. Do you know what the food plant was?

Nice work Jon :You_Rock_ I've been experimenting with barks but haven't tried Beech yet.

Red Kite has redder, more contrasting plumage and a more obvious deeply forked tail ;)
