    WWII Era Spade colour.

    I have a similar one, but later dated. It was covered in green paint, I scraped the paint off and used boiled. Linseed oil l. Sprayed the metalwork black. Looks good and feels great in the hand. Still lives in my car Louis

    Source for straps?

    ALICE pack straps can be picked up quite cheaply, I find them comfortable used with a DEI frame.

    Recommendations for decent pair of walking shoes or boots on a budget.

    I guess it depends on your own feet! I had a pair of Aku pilgrims. The lower leg non gortex ones, I found them to be really narrow, with a shape that did not work for me, and the sole unit was over stiff and very slippy in the wet. Louis
