The 'I've found a bargain' thread

Glad someone grabbed it, had no idea this would lead to such a nailbiter. My alert is probably still active, so I'll post if I hear of another one.

The 'I've found a bargain' thread

Just got a notification that Abe books have a copy of Andrew Lane's Survival Advantage for about £6.50 delivered. Alas I bought mine full price a month ago, so this is a bargain someone else can have...

    What did you buy today?

Smashed the piggy bank and took myself along to the Wilderness Gathering. Came away with a Silky Gomboy Outback, Zebra steel plate and a Rob Evans Bushtool S. Very happy. And broke.

    Bivvy advice wanted

To give you my experiences: I've just been using the Dutch hooped bivvy for a week doing the Frontier Intermediate course. The bivvy certainly adds some warmth to your overall set up, but it isn't the difference between cold-just right-sweltering. That's going to be down to the rest of your...

Just to note, I received this from SoldierPalmer and it's an absolute beauty. Thanks again for the brilliant gesture.

    What did you buy today?

Boning up for a bushcraft course in a couple of weeks. Just finished Ray's Outdoor Survival Handbook so picked up a copy of Survival Advantage. Impressed with the readability and thoroughness so far.

    Walnut Pocket Spoon

Another gorgeous piece, Mark. I've been working on a coffee scoop from a piece of walnut, but I've had the blank for years and it's seasoned like granite. I (and my hook knife) dread going back to it, but we'll get there eventually!

    What did you buy today?

A Victorinox Forester M Grip. Wanted something pocket sized that could cover off cooking/food prep as well as a bit of campcraft. I looked at the Rangergrip, but felt it was slightly overkill. So far love it except for the liner lock which, for me as a right-hander, operates totally...

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

Just to add that I agree with Chris and Teedee - I can't see how there is any legal issue with you owning, gifting or selling this knife. Part of the definition of a zombie knife is that it displays: "images or words (whether on the blade or handle) that suggest that it is to be used for the...

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

Just wondering what the source is for this new law being applied, I couldn't find anything?

    The other half - Handles.

I've never seen the carve-your-own Opinel before. It would make a fabulous gift, but it seems to only be available from Opinel with €17 delivery. For my money, I do like micarta for durability. My next-to-be-tested knife is a Joker Bushlord with unstabilised walnut scales. It's very grippy, but...

    Watch repair vs new watch?

I don't know if it's the same, but when the battery is low on my Seiko Kinetic, the second hand moves in 2-second jumps to indicate it needs charging.
