    Ancestry DNA

Maybe when I was a kid. I'm happy to say I haven't needed to see a doctor for a quarter of a century.

    Bushcraft Knives

I prefer the Mora because it actually gets used for real jobs where my other two knives are just expensive toys for playing with. The Helle does look much nicer though.

    Ancestry DNA

Call me a paranoid cynic with trust issues but no way am I going hand over my DNA to anyone. That's just because companies and government agencies can't be trusted not to misuse or sell my information. They have a long track record of repeatedly being untrustworthy in precisely this manner...

    Petrol - stabilising

I heard that due to them regularly being used in third-world countries the old Honda 50 Cub mopeds were designed to be able to run on stale petrol if needed.

It was Scouting that got me into Bush Crafting, can any other claim the same?

I was in the Cubs for a bit when I was younger. Didn't do much or learn much though. I few years later I chose to join the Air Cadets instead of the Scouts because they get to fly planes and gliders and when you're a kid that seems way cooler.

    Petrol - stabilising

Usually I keep between 1/3 to 2/3 of a full tank of petrol in my car. I never seem to drive very far and that would be enough to comfortably get me to anywhere I need to get to in an unexpected emergency. However three weeks ago when I saw the preparations for war in the Middle East happening I...

    Petrol - stabilising

I never need to do it so I'm no expert. But based on what I seen on youtube it is possible to stabilize diesel for a much longer time period than petrol.

    News sources

I find this person on substack to be a good source of news. It's mostly commenting of geopolitics or precious metals but sometimes covers a range of other subjects currently in the news cycle. I have no idea who writes it but I've been reading their posts for a few months now and find they...

    What did you buy today?

I might be tempted if they made a billy can with an extra handle that goes over the top from one side to the other so that it can be hung up or lifted of a fire with a stick.

    What did you buy today?

I've had my eye on a Keith titanium canteen set for ages but the price has always put me off pulling the trigger. They do look really nice though...

Paracord winders Atwood Ready Rope verses Boonies Spool Tool

I find that rope stored as a donut comes out twisted when you pull it. With a figure of 8 tied in the middle it comes out straight with no twists (essential when you're unwinding hundreds of feet of polyrope for an electric fence but maybe not so important for bushcraft).

Paracord winders Atwood Ready Rope verses Boonies Spool Tool

There's no need for a spool tool/paracord winder with this useful knot.

    What did you buy today?

I find the Magic Carpet XL is ideal for sunbathing on with a towel on it.

    Open question - Financial

So the markets have opened and silver is up 2.2%, gold 2.7%. Oil initially jumped up from $73 to $79 and has now settled at around $78. No surprises there then but nothing too major either all things considered. Stock markets are down a fraction but largely unaffected by events. But what comes...

Interesting concept. I've never heard of those and will investigate further.

Tai Chi or other types of gentle exercise

Tricep extensions with a dumbbell in the gym using too heavy a weight and with fast, jerking movements instead of slow, smooth controlled movements. It was many years ago and I was young and dumb. Warm up a bit first. Start with gentle exercises like touching my elbows to my...

    Open question - Financial

Some of them have a vague idea about some of the concepts like money verses fiat but none of them really understood it and thought me to be a bit weird for trying to discus it with them. I think it's due to the way they're educated. From primary school right up to university all that people are...
