Do we coddle the kids too much these days?

Aye, even the nostalgia was better when I was a nipper. Jumpers for goalposts and I still ad enough left over for a fish supper etc.

Gathered a few rather special acorns

Gathered a few acorns today, bunged em in the earth in a few pots and shortly after the dog ambles into the house munching on something. Cheeky git was scoffing the acorns. He's walked past thousands of the things while on walks but I pick a few dozen and all of a sudden its food. Looking on...

    Multi dims socket

I do have a Metrinch socket set I bought secondhand for mebbe a tenner (can't remember exactly but I bought it off Greengrass so it won't have been much) and thats pretty good. The advertising blurb reckons they fit metric and Imperial AF but basically its just wall drive sockets which still...

Do we coddle the kids too much these days?

Is this one of those "The Youth Of Today" type of narratives? I'm pretty sure that story was first written down shortly after writing was invented. Extra points avaliable for suggesting National Service where they're taught to risk their lives to kill foreigners they don't even dislike so...

Lower volume, outdoor brand rucksack with a long back length - 20-25 litre to fit a 196cm / 6'5" tall person??

Bit left field but Kriega do small rucksacks that have a fold down top for waterproofing and are made for motorcyclists so hang on like a limpet. Dunno about tall sizing and they're not cheap tat.

    Multi dims socket

Seems that most applications when I need a socket on a bolt or nut is restricted for space and having a socket thats got big thick numb walls (or that being a large outer diameter) means they're not getting onto the bolt/nut. Bit like those spanners they gave out with new pushbikes yonks ago...

    Waterproofs who needs them?

So, in short. Getting wet through isn't a problem til it is and then sometimes you can end up dead from its consequences? Well, I'm glad we cleared that up.

    What are you listening to?

So, the week before last the director of a company I'm subcontracting for (through another company) taised a complaint that my workmate amd I were insufficiently cheerful. In an effort to increase our happiness quota I compiled a playlist for my site MP3 player. Bring me Sunshine - Morecambe...

    Leaning Tree of Holly

A place I was working at a few years ago cut a holly tree down, it was starting with green shoots again but as the stump was about 500mm (20" for those who still measure in the Liberian masurements) in diameter. To my eyes cutting that tree down was far more of a crime than that damn Sycamore on...

Is this a Bumper Year for Sloes?

Another bumper year, theres sloes where I've never even noticed blackthorn trees, apples weighing down branches and more blackberries than I've ever seen.

    Modern car technology

I drive an 05 Toyota Hiace, its 20 years old a d currently at just over a quarter of a million miles on the clock. Although I habitually wear a seatbelt it wouldn't even chime at me if I didn't and I actually waited longer so I could get one without electric windows as I can't be done with...

    Desk top magnifying glass

Can't remember where I got mine but it clamps onto the desk (upto about 40mm thick and could be bigger as I have a workbench I'd like to clamp it onto without the faff of clamping another bit of wood on my bench). Its got USB powered LEDs and can emit various coloured light in various...

'Razor sharp out of the box'

Whilst I don't absolutely need a.knife to be hair splitting sharp from the factory I would like them to at least get it to a point where a few mins work gets it to where I want it. It shows the maker actually cares about their work. I'd rather it sharpened more acutely than I need than more...

    Glass wearers.

Meh. Its one of the things old people told me about when I was young. Thing is, well... I was young and didn't listen to old people when they chuntered on about their ailments. Now I have some of the same complaints I'm like.. "How come nobody mentioned this?" They did.

'Razor sharp out of the box'

On the subject of Opinels, I've had a few over the years and although the blade shape is good, they don't hld a edge well do they? I'm sure some will say they do. My argument against that is you must have low expectations, aim higher. There's MUCH better steel out there. I really don't mind...

I remember her horse training and my mother (who could train horses) absolutely detested her methods.

    He had it coming..

And as soon as we see the footage from the policemans (well policepersons) camera I'll think about believing them. Don't get me wrong I'm generally in favour of the UK police and they have my full and complete trust in almost 51% of cases. Used to be much higher but a few high profile cases...
