    What did you forage today?

Mines been a bit of an odd one. Tree on a bit of waste ground by where I walk the dog has loads of apples this year. Never even noticed the tree from the rest before. Tasted em a while ago and found them to be very hard and lacking flavour. No worries I thinks, I'll just give the dog a few...

    Is it worth it?

Expert. X is an unknown quantity and a spurt is a drip under pressure.

Showing me logged in as other people

Aye, I can see that could be a problem. Ahem. I'd been caught out by someone else doing that trick but fortunately had worked it out before offering them out or sending death threats. Mind, as my PM's were significantly less spicy (I'm assuming anyway) than his I was maybe a bit more level...

Showing me logged in as other people

Many years ago on another forum there used to be a trick with personal messages. It was the kind of forum where there was a lot of windup merchants and silly tricks going all the time. I'd seen this trick done by someone else and after a few beers one night did it, not really expecting a bit as...

    Surname Origins

I know that the German name of Zimmerman is a trade name (basically its Carpenter). A lot of UK names are the same as places. 'What's yer name and where do you come from?' Dave from Threlkeld. Written into the work registry as Dave Threlkeld. I guess anyway.

    BACON!

So, in short... There's an ebb and flow in the Bushcraft knife demand and consequently the amount of people putting their work up on here. However, we all have an opinion on bacon and a thread about it garners a decent number of replies. Oband I like it a bit crispy.

DIY - toolbox refurb / rust removal question

Renaissance Wax for the protection. Mind, it's pretty much just microcrystalline wax and white spirits (odourless is supposed to be fine) mixed in a double boiler as far as I can work out.

    Scam calls.

I'm signed upto that and still get the very odd occasion when one tries their luck. As soon as they start their spiel I just ask "Have you ever heard of the Telephone Preference Service? Because if you had you'd know its actually illegal to coldcall me" I think there's only been one time when...

    Open University.

My wife did her masters degree through the Open University not so long ago. It was quite humbling to see the graduations up at Glasgow where many people had overcome significant hurdles to achieve their goals. One lass even came up to recieve the degree of her father who had died just after...

    Rope - suggestions.

Also it's worth bearing in mind the difference between static and dynamic ropes. Static being good for abseiling and especially ascending with... erm... ascenders as theres much less bounce in the rope to sap your energy. Good for caving and so on. Dynamic ropes have more stretch so if you fall...

    Rope - suggestions.

If you plan on climbing with it, don't get secondhand rope. You want to know its history. If its to be used as a towrope, never climb on it afterwards.

    Is it worth it?

All this depends on just how much you have to spend, some people are fairly minted and willing to fork a fair old wedge out for a tool. Some just want something that works and would like to keep the rooof over their kids heads while they get that. There are some great axes and especially knives...

    Sharpest edged tool?

Veritas PMV-11 blade in the NX60 Block plane I bought when my mother died, my inheritance I guess. One like this.

    Binoculars

I have a set of Bushnell Legend 10 x 42 binos that one of my brothers kindly bought me. Pretty much the best present I've ever been given. Were I to buy a pair I reckon I'd have gone for the 8 x 42 version for greater field of view and light gathering ability but thats splitting hairs. £124 is...

Gathered a few rather special acorns

With luck this will work as it's about how trees manipulate squirrels to abandon their acorns by producing small amounts some years them bumper crops other years. It's that Steve Mould bloke again.

    Dish washing in UK.

We used to have a dishwasher but didn't use it much. I do however miss it slightly, they're good for cleaning motorcycle parts. Id still rather have the space though.

    Dish washing in UK.

Depending on if its had oinion, garlic or something else thats bad for the dog its usually the four legged pre-wash, put the washing up liquid on the sponge and not just in the water. Wash and a quick swill in the bowl to get the rough of the soap off and allow to dry or dry manually. I'm...
