Only thing I would do would be leave the forge finish on the blade and just grind the bevels but I’m a big brute de forge fan. I think it would look pretty good with the rasp marks in it still.
Here’s one I left as a forged finish.
As a ex forward observer with operational experience. I used a gerber suspension multi tool. I had no need for a fixed blade and it would have just been extra weight.

I haven’t used either but I do have a few mora companions in carbon and stainless. In basic the carbon looses its edge quicker but is quicker to sharpen and if neglected rusts.

Looks like you have done a good job. I wouldn’t worry about the small gap unless it causes the head to wiggle but you could add another small wedge wood into the front.
