Our garlic is in, but today we’ve had a harvest from the greenhouse:
The red and chocolate brown chillies are medium hot and very versatile, but those little yellow ones are lemony/fruity and are seriously hot! You only need one chopped up in a saucepan of chilli con carne or sausage stew...
<AOL> Me too. Mine is the hood less unlined one though. It’s served for 4 or 5 years in my case, beating and rabbiting. My jacket is showing its age though, so a new one ( mine was still in its wrapping) will be on my shopping list soon.
Heard a commotion in the garden this morning, and grabbed the camera. Managed to catch a young sparrowhawk taking a young blackbird on the far side of the garden:
These are crops from a shots at 600mm.
Today my wife noticed something moving in a different manner around our tiny pond. When we checked with binoculars (c. 15 yards) we could see it was a snake. On looking through some reference pictures seems it was a barred grass snake, around 3 feet in length and quite silvery in colour with...
It’s not a board game, but I like to play Spoof with some other old boys from our village at the pub. It’s an ancient counter game, although usually played with coins for whatever spoils you choose collectively. We play for a round of crisps :). You don’t need a table top, but it does make...
I’m with Woody Girl in that using cash helps me keep to a budget (I’m retired), and the state of my wallet is a strong visual reminder of what I can afford to spend that day or week. I always try to have some change with me as well as notes, as that also helps in places that often seem to be...
I always carry cash, and try to always use it as a personal preference. I do have a card with me as a backup if I’m going away from home for a full day or longer.
Thanks all. I think we’re going to skip any burning as there are crops in the fields around us and a couple of thatched cottages further down in the village. I could stand over the fire with a hose but I wouldn’t want it embering along for hours on end, only to break into flames again when my...
Hi All,
We’ve been trying to catch up with our gardening following the extremely wet winter and spring. One of the jobs I’m facing is to tidy and trim right back our large clump of pampas grass in the back garden. The plant has totally engulfed the section of garden where it is placed.
In the...
At dusk today we noticed the first pair of bats of the year circling in the gathering gloom, in the southern lee of the house. I’m exceedingly unlikely to be able to photograph any of them, but they are certainly very active.
Congrats from me. Life very soon takes over any kind of ‘spare time’ and fills it up, so make sure that you’re doing things that you always wanted to. Life also doesn’t need to be too expensive if you cover the important things, but give yourself a little treat every now and then!
Health to...
Have you guys had a look at the Ringway Manchester YT channel? He covers a lot of radio stuff - my particular twist is for cellular, having been a cellular geek - but he’s done some interesting videos around meshtastic LORA devices.
