    What is wrong with people

It's not just dog poo, parking is also an issue. Yesterday..and this has happened many times with similar response.. I was accompanying a lady who uses a mobility wagon. As we got into town, there is an area near the supermarket that has double yellow lines, a dropped curb and a white line. So...

    Weather to come.......

I've got an inflatable canoe... Bit slower, but could prove useful. :) If the river overtops in town, our pub will be underwater. I'll go take a look at the river tomorrow, see what's what. If a fallen tree from upstream blocks the bridge into town, as occasionally happens we got trouble!

    Weather to come.......

Looks like we are on another red warning with 50- 80mm of rain expected in the next 24 hrs over exmoor. A lot of it will exit via our valley. We are already sodden and soaked to the brim. Could be rather interesting this weekend. Rather glad I got my new wellies a few weeks ago Though I think...

    Kitchen items

A spong mincer. Works even if the power is out, and untill my then partner bought me an electric "wizzy gig," (as its always been known in my house, ) which was used for pate , soup, humus, aswell as mincing stuff. I don't use it so much now, as the electric hand blender is much quicker to use...

What’s everyone using for fire lighting this winter?

I like my ferro rod and either birch bark or home made waxed cotton pads. Always have a lighter in case I can't be bothered to mess about and need my cuppa NOW!

    Weather to come.......

It's very wet and windy again. The path into town had giant puddles, which doesn't happen often. I can hear the river from the house, which is about half a mile away, I havnt been down to look, but that usualy means that a couple of miles further down the road there is flooding. Was meant to go...

    Coffee logs

That's interesting, was it an open fire or a log burner? I actualy detest the smell of coffee. I can't go into coffee shops like Starbucks without gagging....not that I would anyway as I don't drink the stuff. But that's my only worry, that it would scent the room with coffee smells. Which would...

    Inflatable camping light

I got myself a "Lucy light" last year, it performs realy well with several light options High, low, flashing, red, and red flashing. Shelter box use them, which is what prompted me to get one, as if they are good enough for disaster relief, they are good enough for me. Charged well in...

    Coffee logs

Has any body had a go at making and using these? I've just been given a paper log maker, and past experience has led me to the conclusion that just newspapers are not realy worth the effort. Only the day before I had half watched a yt about coffee log making, and having access to plenty of...

Bushcraft and homesteading skills in WW3

Wow, this has come a long way from what bushcraft and homesteading skills would be usefull hasn't it. Well, to be honest, I'm not interested in surviving the big bang, to end up living in a mad max aftermath. All food and water will be contaminated, so you won't be able to eat or drink anything...

    Home made furniture polish.

I guess you could use a different oil, I do 7se coconut when I make lip balm and other creams like that. but this is my first go at making furniture polish so I'm sticking with this recipe for now. I'm not sure I'd want to use paraffin..not a great smell and with my delicate asthmatic chest I...

That's why the grapefruit seed oil is used, as its (as stated) a natural anti oxidant)

    Home made furniture polish.

Spring cleaning time is around the corner, so I'm about to make some proper, old fashoned furniture polish, as I like real wood furniture and have a few old pieces I like to keep in tip top condition. It's Easy enough to buy a can of spray and get on with it that way, but a proper old fashoned...

    Weather to come.......

Well, I know many have had problems with the weather, storm garretti overnight. I took all the warnings seriously but with calm preparedness, and slept through it all. So far as I can tell this morning, all is well here, and a tad disappointing, as regards drama. Bins are still in place, and...

    Weather to come.......

On a red warning tonight. Seems many a bit further down the sw peninsula are already in power cut mode, so have been prepping this evening to be out of power when I wake up. Candles and lanterns strategically placed, batteries checked and renewed if nessasary in the lanterns, torches and fairy...

    Fight, flight or fawn ?

I would always try to help and have done so on several occasions. The first time, ( late 1970s)I was on my bike, following a 2 door mini, when smoke started emitting from the engine. The lady driver pulled over and leapt out screaming. I pulled in behind and realised there was a baby in the...
