    What did you buy today?

Not realy. I don't have TV, so I just put on the radio and do stuff instead of just sitting around being a TV zombie. The washing up is a little bit of a faff, but part of the game I guess. I like the feeling of looking at my fridge and seeing home made butter, yoghurt, pickled beets and onions...

Just been down the arm y surplus store, now have a couple of spare butter making arms stashed under the bed for future use. :) :) Bae systems were a bit expensive , so I've got a couple of part used ones. Igor.. the shop keeper was very helpful and even gave me a few bolts to keep my head on...

    What did you buy today?

Saturday afternoon, I found a small kilner butter churn on the shelf of my local charity shop. Made butter with it today. (Anyone know where I can find a new arm?) :) Phew! Hard work! but very satisfying as I now also have half a jug of buttermilk in the fridge, ready to bake a soda bread tomorrow.

    Show us your larder cupboard

I so want a proper walk in larder, or a larder cupboard. Lucky you. I've just been looking at them and am toying with the idea of getting one. Trouble is, where will it go? Do I get rid of my long adored Welsh dresser, which takes up the only space available, or not...dilemma. I definatly...

    Cheese Board

Sharpham rustic, (sometimes I get the one with herbs in. Both lovely) A good local Somerset cheddar, well matured and tangy. Cornish yarg Devon blue, I think it's nicer than Stilton, but I'll have Stilton if I can't get the Devon blue. Home made soft or cottage cheese. Especially flavoured...

Anyone a fan of tinned fish?

Tinned tuna is a staple, I adore tuna mayonnaise, and also in a homemade tuna and sweetcorn pasta bake. I often have mackerel in tomato sauce on a nice crunchy bit of rye sourdough toast, just mash it all up, add an extra squirt of ketchup, and pop under the grill to heat through. Delicious...

Bushcraft and homesteading skills in WW3

I have a heat pump, it doesn't avoid the power cuts. Your lights and heating still go off like everyone else's. Then the timer needs a reset, which as I'm in rented accommodation, I'm not allowed to do, even if I could get into my loft and knew how to do it.

Bushcraft and homesteading skills in WW3

We have just had a 3 hr long power outage this morning, no big deal, but I was in the shower eith my hair full of suds! Suddenly the shower stops working and I can't see a thing! Luckily there was some tepid water in the tank(due to reheat this evening, but the timer will be all to pot now, so...

Seeking knowledgable advice for full sleeping set up for all season regular family wild camping UK (future Europe) and other things

You don't say what sexes your 4 elder kids are, but they could share two, two man tents between them and could be carried with their gear in their own packs. The two smaller ones could..and should be in with you. That means at least a 4 man tent for the two adults and two smallies. It will be a...

    What did you buy today?

Another charity shop find..(what else)... a down, knee legth jacket for a measly £11.50. Hydrophobic down. Sold as seen. It's rather dirty, but nothing a good down wash won't solve. Otherwise in good condition. Saved myself several pounds there!, and when this long promised cold snap comes...

    Weather to come.......

When is this b****y rain gonna end????? My bones are affected with this awful dampness, and I'm realy beginning to sieze up. I feel for those who have been flooded out of their homes, and feel so lucky here as though we've had massive puddles across the roads, cars can still get through with...

What was the smell of school dinners ?

School dinner smell for me was mashed potatoes, overcooked cabbage, and sloppy mince, or rissoles, and gravy. Followed by custard, which we had with everything except sago (frogspawn) pudding, where you got a dollop of jam. I still can't bear school dinner smells. Still hate gravy and...

    Stoopid jokes

Saw a wooden hanger in a window today. It read..... My wife.. (wife crossed out and substituted with husband)... dresses to kill.. and cooks the same way. Obviously a long suffering wife there.!
