    Spring anyone ?

This afternoon, I had to rush inside from attempting to sort out the clematis, due to a sudden crazy hail storm. Went from warm sunshine to hail in about two minutes. I just managed the last cut as it came down. Its gone very very chilly this evening.

    Sprouts & Micro Greens

I took these outside to photograph as the house is dark today and pics were crappy. So we have aduki beans, alfalfa, and mung beans in the sprouting jars. Middle jar is not specialised, hust an old gerkin jar coverd with a square of muslin. In front is an old fruit punnet with cress growing...

    Compact emergency food supply.

How does your diabetes affect what you can eat? Can you heat stuff up? Packs of cheap noodles that you can add stuff to perhaps. Apples, nuts, dried fruits, oatcakes. Jars of olives and cheese like baby bells I'd go to band m and get the small multipacks of peas , carrots, and sweetcorn, then a...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Leigh is a good down to earth chap. No flum flam or hype, like some others. Spoken to him many times on the phone, and got both bushcraft items and some "prepping supplies" ie a berkfield water filter, food grade buckets, and some other bits and bobs. Always excellent advice, and extremely...

    South West meet up

Friday to Sunday make a weekend of it. I'll have to look at dates as every 3rd weekend of the month I have certain responsibility I can't realy dodge , so maybe after the early may bank holiday.. Have a google look at Westermill farm, exmoor. It's not massively expensive, and the people are...

    What are you growing?

I reckon it would be an excellent idea. Some ideas for plants. Bush beans. I like purple tipi, interesting colour but serve up green when cooked so no weird colours on your plate, very decorative growing. Radishes. Baby beetroot. Can't remember the name but there is a deep purple leaved...

    What are you growing?

Is anyone helping/encouraging their friends and neighbours to grow things? Today I took rosemary herb cuttings and split up some chives to set one friend on his way with a pot herb garden, we also built a tomato grow house and put up some hanging basket brackets so he can grow tomatoes and...

    What are you growing?

Funnily enough, my 3 sisters garden works very well. , but the brassica are always a disaster! I've got all my sprouting jars in full swing. I managed to find some biosnacky sprouting jars in the charity shop a few years ago, before that, I used old gherkin jars..the big ones with some old...

    What are you growing?

I made a kimchi garden a couple of years ago in a couple of large pots. Chinese cabbage, mooli radishes and carrots. I had some dried chillis which I had grown the year before, so then I could make my own kimchi. An idea if you like Asian food. Doesn't have to be in a pot, it was just that I...

    What are you growing?

Got my shallots in today, broad bean, and rocket seeds started off in pots, and also some basil. It was rather wet today, so gave up on any further plantings, but potatoes are chitting nicely and garlic, which ive brought on indoors due to being unwell over the Xmas period, are ready to be...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

I hear you, and agree. But I'd rather be over caution nowadays than blasé about things.

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Very true, especially nowadays. Women are being assaulted and robbed in many places daily, on a scale that we've never seen before. I felt relatively safe in the past, even hitch hiking round Europe in my twenties..not without several dodgy moments!, but I've always had a good situational...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

It's easy to be cynical if you are a fit man. I'm a female and a pensioner with limited mobility. I cant run and any physical confrontation with a man nowadays would not go in my favour. (In the past, a different story) I'm not paranoid, or scared, just very aware, with a decent survival instinct!

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Better to be safe and act on your gut instincts than ignore them and find yourself in a dodgy situation that could be seriously damaging to oneself. I could tell you about many occasions where I've felt uneay, and moved away, to be later proved right. Just a couple of instances. One of them...
