    What’s everyone doing today?

That is beautiful! Brooding and atmospheric.

    What’s everyone doing today?

I walked the dogs for a couple of hours in the rain. On my return, I finished painting the kitchen ceiling before doing a music practice and making a spicy dhal for supper. Painting aside, it was all quietly delightful!

    Splitting logs into boards

Another thing of which to be aware with ash: it is plentiful and therefore relatively inexpensive but, because of die back, you mich find it rather more brittle. I find that, making hoop-backed Windsor chairs is a good deal more challenging now - with many more failures after soaking and...

    Epiphany

I agree with pretty much everything you say here. I am a great fan of writing down things that have proved useful on various trips; they always get included on the next one and, invariably, don't let me down. I find that it works for food, too. If I feel I am in the market for something new or...

    Epiphany

When I started down the bushcraft route, many years ago and for a variety of reasons, I was told that the Scandinavian grind was the one to have on my knife. I took this as gospel and so bought suitably ground blades from then on, ignoring other options. Now, courtesy of my Peltonen M07, I find...

Plates - what plate/ bowl do you use when camping?

Crusader cup in the main though, on occasion, I have used a stainless steel MSR plate.

Bush Craft. Quiz. Hope you do better than I did

I was given 90%. I slipped up on the soap'n'birch leaves (personally, I'd sniff out a horse chestnut for washing) and the glue question. I'm not sure about some of the 'challenges', such as 'who tells the best stories?', as subjective answers aren't a useful guide to bushcraft skills and...

    New Stainless Peltonen M07

This from Peltonen's website. It seems odd that they should differentiate between 'full tang' and what they have produced historically. Unless, of course, they just want to charge more money for a similar product...

    New Stainless Peltonen M07

    Aha! That's clearer.

    New Stainless Peltonen M07

My Finnish is non-existent and the suggested film didn't appear to show the knives' handles being put on at all. However, I am prepared to believe your assertion and so stand corrected. I would say that my understanding of the term 'full tang' in relation to knives means that the steel of the...

    New Stainless Peltonen M07

Well, the tang on mine is hidden in the handle. That generally suggests a stick tang, even if it is a hefty one. The Bushcraft Store (absolutely no association...) have the full tang M07 in 14c27 steel with curly birch slabs; it does look a handsome beast but I really do not need any more...

    New Stainless Peltonen M07

Of course, if you want a really strong M07, there is a full tang version now available...

    European centric ?

Technically, Dungeness in Kent is a desert... As has been pointed out, most bushcraft practitioners who frequent this site are U.K.- based and keen to hone skills relevant to their immediate surroundings. That's not to say that there wouldn't be interest in informed discussion about...

    Ray Mears Tracker Tarp

I have a Tracker tarp but I can't say I've had the same experience as you purely because I don't use the bag! I tend to use mine with a dry bag as I'm not the greatest fan of velcro. But, as others have said, get back to Woodlore: they'll certainly help out out.

    New bushcraft bag suggestions please

Savotta: well designed, well made and very comfortable.

    Towards slightly greener fleece

I agree that wool garments can be expensive but, in the original post, the quest was for a 'greener fleece' rather than one that was inexpensive. I reckon that environmental credentials and 'concerns' get somewhat battered when price takes precedence over helping to mitigate damage to the...

    Towards slightly greener fleece

    What's wrong with wool?

    Lars Fält

That is very sad but we must remember to celebrate the things he gave us and the life he led.

It’s not just a fad, Mum!

Stainless steel Crusader cup Keela Harris Tweed smock thing Thorn Wood Forge Kestrel hatchet Lundhags boots - I can't remember which ones they are It's surprisingly hard to think of those 'absolutely-must-have' items! Still, there are a few of mine that I would replace in the blink of an eye.

British Blades Forum Knife - The Coolest Knife That Never Was?

Could you be tempted to make up one - or more - of them? It looks a very fine cutting tool indeed...
