Hobo Stove Gallery (Probably picture heavy)

I managed using: battery drill, hacksaw, pliers, Dremel and... lump hammer. I cheated a little by borrowing a crimping tool at work for the handle. Cobalt drill bits for stainless, if you've got them.

    Innovation in Bushcraft

I'm not sure whom to credit, but if you wrap a firesteel in lavatory tissue before striking it, you'll get lit tinder with one less step.

The chimney hole seems quite wide. That's a bush oven, right ?

Do you remember when they brought in that new-fangled "bronze" stuff, and put the poor rock-heaters out of business ? And they call it progress. There'll be indoor lavatories, next !

    Innovation in Bushcraft

We do like our lists, don't we ? Collating the techniques so far, without judging their novelty: - Fastenings: Evenk hitch; Blake's hitch - Fire-lighting: bog roll on a firesteel; vaseline cotton ball; tinder cigarette; floating-hands fire drill; fire blower; pot chain; testing the length...

    Innovation in Bushcraft

If I'm honest, I'm using you lot as a Search Engine; with the emphasis on technique, more than equipment. Following on from what Tony said, I'd hope that the likes of Mors and Lars, Bear and Ray are still on the learning curve; albeit closer to the plateau. Your most recent innovation may be...

    medical herbs in england?

Copy that. The big test for a book is the edibility of elderberries and rowan berries. But I don't know what the correct answer is.

    Innovation in Bushcraft

Having wandered back onto the Internet after a long spell in the real world, and seen someone wrapping bogroll onto his firesteel, I'm shamelessly resurrecting this thread. Does anyone have any more 'innovative' top tips ? Techniques that you've picked up from this site, that have made your...

    Wanted: fire piston

Thought of making one ? I'm no craftsman, but I managed to get a piece of copper pipe working with tools no fancier than a junior hacksaw.

    Recomend An Axe

We'll be away for Christmas, and I've been allowed to open my present early (also, I don't want to leave timber out in all of this liquid sunshine). Having spent more than ¼-century splitting with a felling axe, how pleased am I finally to get to use the right tool for the job ? It's cut (pun)...

What is your ultimate test for a sharp Knife

The thumbnail test is all I bother with for practical use (that is, does it skid ?). As for ultimate, isn't there a hint in the description "razor sharp" ? Go against the grain, I dare you.

What are people wearing/doing to camoflage themselves when stalking and tracking

Blanket around the waist ? I had to read a bit further, because I read "kilt". (which of course have there own snagging problems when the thistles are high)

What are people wearing/doing to camoflage themselves when stalking and tracking

Has anyone who hunts regularly with camo ever had a go without, to see how much difference it makes in their success ? I've never taken the step beyond a wax jacket, and wanted to know if it'll be worth it. And is there one thing that has more effect than the others (glass, face, hands...
