Favorite ways to brew either at camp or home

You got me wrong - I'm using my hobo to compensate for the fact that I'm drinking a thimbleful of 16-bar espresso with my little finger projecting... instead of roasting my own foraged beans, grinding them with flint and boiling them in buckskin.

Handpresso, for a treat. Not very hairy-chested; but does hobo-boiling the water compensate ?

Annoying or Cool BCUK Avatars - Discuss But Without Being Rude!

Blast! To make matters worse (not sure I should be admitting this), it's actually biometrically accurate: the dimensions are scaled from a photo. Laser removal time ?

Annoying or Cool BCUK Avatars - Discuss But Without Being Rude!

Just made-up stuff, representing family members: puma, gazelle, raven, squid. You'll probably need to squint quite a lot to see any resemblance. (but for the squid, they're runic; in that they needn't go with the grain)

Annoying or Cool BCUK Avatars - Discuss But Without Being Rude!

They're not on a T-shirt, but my pictograms do adorn my arm. Is that taking it a bit too seriously ?

    Survival Air Rifles?

The experience of some would contradict this, but I absolutely agree that the use of inappropriate equipment for live quarry should be discouraged. For this reason, I retract what I said.

    Survival Air Rifles?

Me being a poor shot, my TDR has a big scope and a bipod, which bulks it up even more. That's without the pump. Some pistols are OK for rabbits; and better for ratting. You can even fit a death ray, if you're that way inclined.

    Scotland Bushcraft camping trip 2010

+1, be it Back o'Bennachie, Glen Tanar, or hiding from Fred. If it's at the Back, we could maybe look at wet fires, as Fred has suggested elsewhere (correct me if I'm speaking out of place, Fred).

    How round a butt ?

I'd always thought that removing the tsuba gives you unrealistic flexibility (I say "unrealistic" - don't take that to mean that I get into regular sword fights). But I also wanted to keep a memory of the original branch: earlier attempts retained the bark around the tsuba. And I'm too tight...

    How round a butt ?

For everyone that's posted a new knife or a new wooden spoon, one of my (square-butted) bokken attempts. I snapped it myself, before it took someone's eye out in the dojo. I got the piece of ash from a mate, and there was one knot I couldn't avoid.

    Yet another Banock!

    Yet another Banock!

Be careful of experimenting with recipes to keep the children happy. The addition of chocolate powder may yield unfortunate visual effects.

Amazonas moskito traveller hammock - any good?

This has since seen a fair bit of use. Packs down neatly for trips when weight isn't a problem. We also went for a simpler all-weather chair for the garden (hung from a sea buckthorn).

    Weak wrists

Where's that book you promised us ? Even if it's just a photo catalogue, it's going to be popular with a lot of BCUK.

    Beer can stove kit

The holes cover less than half of the circumference - I limited them to where I imagined the "burble" would separate. Face into the wind for wood fuel, face away for gas. It works fine with my gas stove, but that may be because its flame will be more stable. I don't have a close-up to prove...

    Beer can stove kit

A bit off-topic, but I'm heartened to see another shield being used with a billy (as opposed to the more orthodox hobo stove). I've replaced the billy handle with wire of a length that retains it (and, perhaps unadvisedly, pimped it by replacing aluminium with stainless). Mine's sized for a...

Knife and axe injuries (gory photo alert)

I'm looking at the tracery of white lines on my left forefinger, but they've all healed with little drama. The fact that there are several proves that it took a variety of blades for me to learn my lesson.
