    Help with shelter ID?

I'm not sure how best to put this... I'm afraid that the neo- in this lithic is from around 2000 AD (or should that be CE?). I'm fairly confident of not having desecrated an old burial ground, since I've landscaped that area (including the 'sweat lodge') from building rubble left by the...

    Help with shelter ID?

Thank you. It's just a 'toy', and not especially weather-tight (although the floor was dry in the drizzle). For the test firing, the smoke went out through the back wall (the door was facing a stiff wind). With the addition of a leaf/debris layer, I'm fairly confident that it would act like a...

    Help with shelter ID?

The nest of the grey-flecked elm-pollarder: I'm not sure how to classify it - wickiup, debris shelter? There's no trick photography involved: the structure is just as you see it, made up of snedded stems no thicker than a finger. It sits over the stone-lined hole that we cover with a...

    N.E Scotland 2nd meetup

Whatever implied permission I had assumed has recently been revoked. Testes! Perhaps, now that we're building a head of steam, we'll start to meet more regularly and less formally. CBJ, if I can manage the three cuts that make an atlatl, I know that you'll have it mastered in no time. The...

Atlatls? If we're not fussy, bamboo and duck tape will do for darts. Because one can be made with little more than a couple of cuts to a stick, it's less frustrating than bowyery when your masterpiece snaps 90% of the way through its hand-crafting.

    GB Leather Working Tool Set

Thanks. (a subsequent Google brought me straight back to a bunch of ideas on BCUK; more selective than the site search)

Can anyone point in the direction of ideas for a crook knife sheath?

    GB Leather Working Tool Set

I'll add my gratitude to TeeDee for the effort put in to organising this. Having finallly taken the time to have a good old look through the list, I'll cry off (the list that I'd put together from the starter thread is different enough that it'll be simpler for me, albeit more expensive, to...

    GB Leather Working Tool Set

This is all happening too quickly! Quick question from an uninitiate: Al Stohlman suggests unwaxed thread. Does it make a big difference to making the eyes?

What should a beginner's leatherworking tool kit contain ?

With the nights fair dra'n in, long evenings to fill, and the recent rescue of a pair of battered old Chinese rigger's boots, this is a bump. I'm tempted to make a solo break for one of the websites: should I be patient?

    Ray Mears in Aberdeen

Who's volunteering to take MOM for the inaugural BCUK-NES AGM? Agenda 1. What are you having? 2. Orange-and-lemonade, please, I'm driving. 3. He's not as chubby as he looks on telly, is he? 4. We should really have another meet this winter. 5. Anyone seen CBJ?

    Leatherman Premium? Sheath

Per prediction, didn't fit... leaving me still curious to know what does (other than an LM-branded 'flashlight'). What EDC items (plural, given two flaps) fit the tight constraints?

Wear green? Turns out I have a prior booking on the 30th (someone else had assured me it was the 14th). I'll have to hear about it at the next meet.

    Trousers? Boots? My miscellanious questions..

Ditto. A significant portion of my kit is based on recommendations from early Combat and Survivals.

    Trousers? Boots? My miscellanious questions..

Magazines will be a military term: I assume that Combat & Survival must be available in one of those smaller formats you see in airports. If it's still in print.

    Trousers? Boots? My miscellanious questions..

Hijacking the thread and going back to the Kiwis... my Craghoppers, although comfortable, need far more regular re-stitching than my Dickies. I met someone else at a recent gathering who had the same problem. Addressing the question to people who've tried a few options: is there any benefit...
