    Bury or burn?

Burning waste on an open fire is not likely to destroy all the unpleasant chemical residues and will most likely create some that weren't there. The regulations for incinerators stipulate a temperature of 850°C (or 1100°C for halogenated organic substances). You might be able to get your fire up...

    Anyone own a Zafira tourer?

Wifey is on her second Zafira. I think of it as a Swiss Army Knife car. None of it's abilities are class leaders, but it is a Jack of all trades. Great to be able to take a couple of the kids friends along on a trip or offer lifts to the pub. And then again you can stuff furniture in the back...

    Haidinger's brush

It's notoriously difficult to capture an entoptic phenomenon like this, but somehow, this morning the conditions were just right. Z

    Haidinger's brush

I managed to take a great photo of Haidinger's brush this morning. A fascinating phenomenon worth looking into. Z Edit: If you can't spot it straight away, try rotating your head from side to side.

    Foraged foods

This year I have a plan to try Japanese Knotweed. Apparently a bit like rhubarb. The trick is to find a patch you are sure hasn't been sprayed. Edit: I should add that you really shouldn't take it off site and anything you cut but don't eat needs to be burnt on your fire. Z

    Spoon carving frustrations

Firstly, thinking that a wooden spoon was a two dimensional shape like the ones I had used in the kitchen with a flat rim surrounding the bowl: Handling spoons made by people who knew what they were doing was a revelation. Having the three dimensional thing in your hand to study and, if...

    WANTED Birch bark sheets

Hedgelaying - the Ultimate Bushcraft Activity?

    Old fleeces.. ideas?

Wifey made this from the kids old fleece things. The backing is a hessian sack. I think it had only been finished for five minutes before the dog adopted it! It is full of memories. For instance, the greyish blue bits top left were from hoodies I bought for a pound each from Woolworths closing...
