Thanks for sharing, that’s a good story. I was on the Aonach Eagach last month doing some CPD with a Mountaineering Instructor, plenty of places to fall off there too! I don’t think I’ve met many folk who had to jump to stop their oppo falling - your friend had a great presence of mind.
I’ve probably traversed Crib Goch 30 times and have been involved in quite a few rescues on it (as a member of an MRT). It’s best to approach from Pen-y-Pass and do the horseshoe anti clockwise so the harder bits are completed first. You’ll need a good head for heights as there is some exposure...
I’ve spent a lot of time walking and climbing in the Highlands over the years. My advice would be to go in May or Oct. Both periods are generally not too busy (apart from the BH) and there are few midges. It seems common to get a week or more of clear, dry windless weather in both months. May is...
Nothing wrong with the quality of insulation in my opinion. I think they just use false information to sell products (perhaps unintentionally). I use a Nautilus for bunkhouses etc - the design is clearly for non serious use but it is rated for comfort at 3*c whereas I would rate comfort in the...
I’ve used Snugpak bags for 25 years and the ratings have always been optimistic IMO. I do like the brand and think the products are good quality but the ratings are off.
Both good packs. The Sabre was based on the old Karrimor Alpinste the Centurio more like an updated Munro. Not much between them really. I think given the option the Sabre is probably the slightly better pack - Foogs is correct about the waist strap. I would go for the Sabre.
Different types of x-country ski. Are they normal skis but with a ‘free heal’ for going up hill or white NATO ‘planks’ with a cable binding or are they thin and take a 3 pin ‘Nordic Norm’ which is more like a lightweight boot with a tongue on the front? Pics would help
The Bushcraft Store and Pathfinder mug both work well. The Bushcraft store mug is slightly better as the bale is attached and the measurement graduations are stamped. Worth looking at a Swiss M71 to go with it for a lightweight brew kit and you can make a nice windbreak from heavy weight foil...
Hi folks,
I’m after a lightweight hot tent such as the One Tigris Smokey hut or Iron Wall. Anyone got one they’re looking to move on. Might have some stuff to trade or sale. Thanks Ed
£50 is more realistic for the aluminium version you have. EBay listed prices aren’t always what things sell for, if you look under the sold filter £40-£60 seems to be the current price.
I’ve got the set, I even had an old Slumberdown liner for a bit. If I sleep without clothing I tend to find the system cold, it seems to work better wearing base layers. This differs (for me) to other down and synthetic bags. I don’t really use the Pertex liner I either just use the inner or the...
A good combination for 1 is a nested bottle / cup, 10 or 12 cm billy and small frying pan with a lid. This set up work well with an open fire or camping stoves and allows you to drink whilst cooking a good variety of dishes. The Pathfinder range offers all the above. The French have a new non...
Berghaus Munro. Had it about 15 years and it’s starting to show its age a bit now. I’ve a Centurio too so I’ll probably donate the Munro to my daughter who has joined the Air Cadets.
