The Ultimate "What is this Fungi?" thread.

I would say not- it's likely to be blackening polypore or possibly beefsteak fungus (although this is typically more red in colour). Pics of the underside and tree species may help to ID.

    Sound of Jura

I visited Islay a few years back, and portnahaven and port askaig were great for pollock and coalfish- they are very similar layout to the sound itself. Anywhere with a bit of depth and flow should provide pollock around there- have a look on garmin's navionics charts online. A carolina rig with...

    What are you growing?

The strawberries are coming to an end, probably another week or so left. I've got around 3kg frozen to make a big batch of jam! We have had a lot of insect bitten ones but not many slug or snail issues this year. Pea pods are starting to dry out nicely, I'm planning to save the seed for next...

    What are you growing?

Nice one @bobnewboy , we had the same seeds a couple of years ago and you are correct they do grow very well! I'm just not keen on radishes so we don't grow them anymore :( I did a little experiment with the potatoes this year, a single chitted seed potato (a second early) with around 5 litres...

    What are you growing?

This has been the daily harvest out of the strawberry beds for the past few days, I think we've had around 10lbs so far. Strawberry recipes welcome! There's probably another 10lbs to come off of them, they take hardly any looking after. And this is my first greyhound cabbage, I'm chuffed...

    Low Stretch Cord

I bought some really good cord from Tamarack outdoors (BCUK members get discount) but it was only thin stuff, I think the brand was Beal, some kind of accessory cord. Brilliant as lightweight guyline for my tarp- I'm curious as to why you get through so much of it?

    Cherry spoon

Thanks folks- it's a lovely wood to work with. Seems fruit trees have a good blend between soft and hard, some of the softer woods are easy to take too much away I.e. willow/alder/birch, whilst oak/beech/Ash are like iron!

Appreciate the response- it's rare to get actual first hand experience of such things.

    Cherry spoon

Cheers RV :) yes, hot oil treatment to get oil into the wood. I'm pretty impressed with the pure tung oil, it really does go hard In a couple of weeks.

    Cherry spoon

It's been a while since my last spoon, and after a clear out in the garden I found a cherry blank soaking in a bucket, so I thought I'd better have at it and finish it. My first carve with cherry, I've heard it has a tendency to split, so I covered the rough finished spoon in a plastic bag so...

    Limited Canned Goods.

Probably something to do with slicing and fitting into sarnies made with sliced bread. Could be completely barking up the wrong tree though!

    Limited Canned Goods.

As long as I can have plenty of dried goods? I.e. dried beans, peas, pearl barley, lentils etc and herbs, I'd actually opt for tinned protein, being harder to dry, so a tin of oily fish probably sardines in sunflower oil, a tin of stewed steak, a tin of spam (good fat content and flavour). I had...
