Cheers for the heads up Bob! I carved my first (very small, a poor excuse for) kuksa a few days ago, and the straight knife is just inefficient at removing wood on the outside- thought it was worth a check on here before I buy one
You might be able to burn them, but they won't kick out anywhere near as much heat, you'll have to use high airflow to keep them going (which will burn through them much quicker) and they will soot everything up very quickly.
What about filling the bins then placing them on there side with the...
@Tiley just wanted to say thanks for the advice. I've gone back and spent some time upgrading my sharpening system and my axe technique. It turned out that the edge had a couple of nicks in it, the edge was sharpish, but not super sharp.
I've modded my Aldi bench grinder by taking off the...
There seems to be plenty of folk using trangias on here. I love my 25 and use it atleast once a week, sometimes way more than that and it's a versatile setup with 2 decent sized pans and a frying pan/lid.
I think its about time we had a thread on meals done in a trangia, we have a thread on...
@Yomigi fresh strapping has arrived and been rescued today! So I've updated the shop with the 120 sheath :)
I completely agree, the thing is, some of the plastic we waste is so robust and strong, is should have way more usefulness. I need to figure out what I can do with the offcuts. A mate...
Quality question Tony.
I've been in some sketchy scenarios before being wet and cold, so it's always in the back of my mind. We've had quite a few deaths with folk wild swimming in the middle of heat waves so it's worth thinking about regardless of the time of year.
If I'm static in winter...
One for the 106 and the 120, on there way to @Brizzlebush , they are in the post now mate.
I've got a spare long one for the 106 if anyone wants it. I'll cover postage I don't want any money for it.
Too true RV. I've never appreciated straight grain in wood quite as much before, equally I've never valued sharp tools as much!
You are bang on about the Asymmetrical style- it's kinda dual purpose and I like how the shape flows on a natural material. Asymmetrical feels more natural...
Came across this piece of cherry in a mates log pile, destined to be firewood- I couldn't ignore how nice and straight grained it was so I begged him to let me have it.
Radial cut spoons tend to need to be from a larger, quartered log, so I new this one would be ideal, I definitely prefer...
I'll take a good look at the edge soon- I have stropped it before every use but I must admit I haven't had a good hard look at the edge since I bought it, you could have a very good point there. I'll get back to you on how that goes! Thanks @Tiley !
Thanks for the reply Tiley :)
So the standard Robin wood axe that I have is the same head weight at 550g, and I feel like I'm having to use a lot of energy, particularly for those moments where I'm using the full length of the handle and a strong swing, and most of the time I'm using green...
