Running DIY WoodStove over night in a small cabin & safety issues

I read somewhere on the internet, there are type of woods unsuitable for woodstove burning. It listed a few tree names, and one of them was alder. In my wood stove burn, they were holly tree twigs, blackthorn twigs, birch barks and birch trees, and some type of conifers. They smoked a lot...

Running DIY WoodStove over night in a small cabin & safety issues

Wouldn't it be about 50% reduction? I was kinda pessimistic the reduced pipe diameter to that portion would work well. But just gave a try to test. The result was excessive smoky burns with strong smell. I was still unsure the result was due to the pipe diameter reduction or the other...

Running DIY WoodStove over night in a small cabin & safety issues

The stoves with 60mm pipe tend to have smaller firebox. They are mostly for camping portable wood stoves. The 127mm flue pipe is for the larger woodstove. The stove is about twice to thrice the size of firebox space. When the 127mm flue was reduced to 60mm, the stove smoked a lot with strong...

Running DIY WoodStove over night in a small cabin & safety issues

The DIY stove of the youtuber "Lone Scavenger" looked a bit dodgy for smoke leaks, but then it is an impression from the images in the videos, and the actual situation might be different. I was just guessing. It looked an unsafe stove for running overnight in a confined space while someone...

Running DIY WoodStove over night in a small cabin & safety issues

I have the other smaller portable woodstoves using 60mm pipes with 90 degree elbows, spark arrester and rain cap. These bits were very pricy for 127mm flue, but cheap for 60 mm, hence I got the 127 to 60mm reducer.

A fair point. Yes, stoves can be all different in the modus operandi suppose. In fact, it could have been the fuel incomplete seasoning which caused excessive smoke too. But I was concluding that the pipe reducer was the culprit for the excessive smoke of the stove, because the other stoves...

Running DIY WoodStove over night in a small cabin & safety issues

Good info, thanks. I have seen a wood stove smoking excessively when the pipe diameter was reduced to half by the pipe reducer (127mm to 60mm) even with the front door air vent fully open. It wasn't burning as such but just smoking out. What could be the reason for this? Doesn't the pipe...

When you say shutdown the stove, does it mean the front stove door or the pipe damper? Should both be kept open?

Running DIY WoodStove over night in a small cabin & safety issues

Came across this youtube video. The presenter makes his own woodstove, and runs it over night in his small cabin while sleeping in it. Would it be safe in doing so? The woodstove seems huge, and not fully sealed for the smoke either.

    YOYTi. (Why titanium?)

I have read many folks don't like sporks. I tried my SS spork eating the grilled chicken wings and rice. It worked quite well. I like sporks. I have not tried any Ti cups, bowls and pots. If they change taste of drinks and food, then it shall be big No No. My Ti chopsticks don't change...

Wood Burning Stove Stainless steel vs. Titanium

Would imagine alcohol or gas stoves would be far lighter, practical and convenient than any wood stoves for carrying in the backpack.

Wood Burning Stove Stainless steel vs. Titanium

Me neither. Could it be the claim that Ti stoves are strong and durable in the sense that they won't corrode, rust or rot away like carbon steel stoves through long period time of uses such as 100+ years or more? Or having been left and stored in the rain and dampness in the outdoors for long...

    YOYTi. (Why titanium?)

The only Ti kit I have and use is a Ti chopsticks. It is paper light, has good balance and control. It is also supposed to be rust free and most durable. I am happy with it. It wasn't also insanely expensive unlike Ti sporks I have seen. Some of the Ti sporks for sale were around 4 - 8 times...

    YOYTi. (Why titanium?)

Here we are to discuss on the kits, how useful they are, their strengths, weakness, and justification for paying more if they are worthy in some respect or better in durability and performance compared to the other kits in the same categories. These points can only be learnt by directly using...

Wood Burning Stove Stainless steel vs. Titanium

Apart from light weight, portablity and foldability , are there other advanatges or points such as strength and durability of titanium stoves over stainless or plain traditional rolled steel ones?

Wood Burning Stove Stainless steel vs. Titanium

I suppose if you use the stoves mainly for back packing and field camping, maybe titanium stoves are worth getting for light weight and foldability. Having read different ideas and points, I can see the point for different options. I was wondering the price difference of average 50% or more...

Wood Burning Stove Stainless steel vs. Titanium

Yeah, that was my initial feeling on Titianium stoves, but was wondering if someone could come up with strong points for justifying their higher cost and hypes :D I still feel that stoves are better with some weight, so they don't get blown over by some strong wind, or get kicked by the camper...

Wood Burning Stove Stainless steel vs. Titanium

I have been looking at some titanium stoves for sale online stores, but couldn't quite see advatange points of them compared to lower cost stainless stoves. They say titanium stoves are stronger than stainless stoves, but they tend to warp more easily than stainless stoves due to thinness of...
