    Best 2025 PMR Radios?

It's really out of fashion, but IMO if you're looking for short range handheld outdoor comms, you can do a lot worse than CB. Most modern handhelds give you 4W without licence and with comparatively little regulation. Almost nobody still uses the UK allocation, so there are no, or at least very...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

My NHS postcode/trust lottery story is several years old, but if anything I think things here have got worse since. A friend of mine, actually an ex from my teenage years, was having some "issues" which were based upon failure to conceive. All the physical tests indicated there was no problem...

    He had it coming..

Walking along with a four foot shovel in your hand? Probably not. Walking in the same place with a NATO e-tool in its carrier on a web belt? Maybe. It's a nonsense, but it's the way British (especially England & Wales) law works, What's "reasonable" is what a majority wont find weird. And it...

    He had it coming..

I would not take a lot of convincing that the whole "incident" was engineered to elicit a response very like the one that occurred, along with the subsequent publicity.

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

There's a few of those over here now. In rural bits of France they're everywhere. But then you'll also find bread, pizza, cheese, roast chicken and err... Oyster vending machines in villages & small towns, much moreso since covid.

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

I can identify with (just) over half of those from my own childhood, and we would have been considered reasonably well off from a working class perspective. Things like renting the TV were just considered the norm. Edit - We owned our house, but property in Belfast back then was cheap for...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Oh I dunno, it was pretty darn rough in the seventies and early eighties. You just heard a whole lot less about it. If you wanted to hear someone "say wot everiwun else is finking" you had to buy their fanzine. These days they get beamed right into your living room, 1080P (at least).

Edit - On immediate reflection it's not a can of worms I want to open.

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

In a case where aid is limited, even finite, it is a judgement which is essential.

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Not how emergency triage works though.

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

I understand you, really. But if we're going to be harsh/honest and apply a kind of triage to how we can offer aid to others, who do you help? Are the injured or ill realistically ever going to recover in the given situation? Is an otherwise able individual who has to coin a phrase "peed...

What did the Pandemic do for you ?

We decamped fairly early to what you might term one of our "bug out" locations, one of the initial factors in the decision being simply that it was more fun to look out the window there than it was at home (well, one of our homes, we've two, first world problems). It very quickly became evident...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Indeed. Although they also say you should never become indispensable! One thing I've always wondered about is transferability of skills, take for instance a doctor, general practice, of how much use would a 2025 GP be to a society in which he cannot write a prescription or refer the patient to...

What size is the tank? That sounds quite small for two, unless we're being sold a pup by the people I've been speaking to.

Multi band radios - teach me

Indeed, foundation is quite simple, rote learning will get you through it, and the recent licence changes make it a much more useful ticket than it used to be. Which annoys a lot of 'classic' amateurs. Being located in N. Ireland however, I notice that there's a bit of a groundswell in Ireland...
