    Banned dogs - thoughts

No, but it is still a valid metric for risk assessment. A toy breed, no matter how aggressive is unlikely to cause life changing injuries if it does attack. This thread illustrates what an emotive and complex issue this is and the nature of the beast (literally in this case) means that unlike...

Anyone remember wire saws, 40+ years ago, that cut?

Survival Aids offerings worked okay, you weren't going to cut lumber with them but they worked. We used to take (electric) jigsaw blades, wrap an end in tape and sharpen the blunt side. If you were working with small pieces of wood that was better.

    Chicken off the wood mushroom

I've only ever used it once, in a curry. And it could have been taken for chicken.

Government consultation on banning large knives and machetes

There is no conclusion drawn on historic blades. In any case, is a Kris or Khukuri manufactured today "historic"? Edit - for all that, a couple of my FS are modern, and we'll perhaps not get into some of the Ernest Emerson designed pieces. :(

Government consultation on banning large knives and machetes

You may feel differently if sitting on several thousand pounds worth of world tribal and military blades, many if not most of of which were specifically designed as weapons but which you've managed not to cause harm to any human being with for fifty and some years.

    Spacious, rugged laptop bag.

I purchased Nice65's Dragons Egg and it is absolutely beautiful. Exactly what I wanted, perfect in every respect... Bar the fact the laptop sleeve is fractionally too small for an Alienware M15. Absolutely bummed because it's a lovely bit of kit otherwise. Going to experiment to see if I can get...

    Sad Email Bushcraftlab closing

Feel like a bit of a vulture, but they've some nice offers in the closing down sale. Tis passing strange as I thought 'prepping' was something of an expanding industry currently.

    Spacious, rugged laptop bag.

Or daysac with a laptop pocket if you'd prefer. My near 20 year old unbranded Chinese one is finally coming to the end of its days, it cost about a tenner and owes me nothing. Prefer something not too spendy, but I could be persuaded to part with more cash for something shiny.

    UK version of Alone.

Nor anything like as quick. I too have appeared on several quiz shows and failed to appear on Mastermind on the day having been afflicted with the worst single incidence of Delhi belly I've had in my life, makes my experience of Gib Gut seem positively tame.

    Anyone know anything about Temu.com?

Very frequently, but there are exceptions. I've quoted before on here that one of the finest "out of the box" outdoor knives I've ever owned was a sub ten pounds Tramontina bowie. Nasty plastic-y sheath admittedly, but if I still had it today I'd be able to rectify that.

    Group Buy Pressure canners.

Sorry folks, I really should have followed upon this. I got a 23qt Presto, new, off eBay. And no word of a lie people, it was in my street. Had a little bit of fun as the vendor and I got suspended accounts twice for "trying to negotiate and off-eBay transaction" while trying to arrange...

Who wants to start a bush craft group in Ireland?

There actually are a few already. It's not really something I'm into (groups), so I couldn't tell you the details but they definitely exist and run courses etc. I'm sure someone will be along with more info soon.

    Savoury.. Oats.

Make a Dal using oats instead of lentils, in it's simplest form - fry off a chopped onion, some garlic and ginger (or use G&G paste), a chilli pepper and maybe something like some sultanas or a few slices of apple. Squirt of tomato puree, then dry spices, the easiest would be a pre-mix curry...
