Fire design in tiny kelly kettles

On the subject of cheating: half the reason I love the Trangia is that you have a little reservoir of meths which can aid lighting camp fires even if you're not using the alcohol stove itself.

Fire design in tiny kelly kettles

A scrap of cardboard or a bit of birch bark are usually enough to get the twigs going. Have it poke out the hole so it's easy to light and use a lighter rather than a ferro rod. I light mine with the kettle on the pan. Really thin twigs will burn away in a minute or 2 so it doesn't matter if...

Kelly kettle or the ghillie kettle

I like using my KK but only after I added a jug style handle. The reason that I don't use it more is that a Thermos flask can serve a similar purpose for my use.

SilverAnt 1.6 L titanium pot compared with stainless steel

When I compared stainless steel with titanium for boiling water, the titanium pot boiled faster. Titanium frying pans have a reputation for burning food and in this case it's down to the thickness (or rather thinness) of the pan. In my experience they are okay for 'wet' food that you can keep...

Kelly kettle or the ghillie kettle

Sorry for being a contrarian but I'd go Petromax for the handles on the back. Pretty sure they offer it in stainless steel now too.

    What are you currently reading?

I watched the prequel and loved it then I watched it again and loved it again. The 'making of' documentary was as good as the series too.

    What are you currently reading?

Rounding off my triad of bunkerpunk I finished Wool by Hugh Howey last week. It's a slow burn at first but builds up intrigue and pace.

    Stationary engines

I had a Lister ST1 for a few years. Never got around to making use of it in the way I'd intended.

The time has come the Bushcrafter said.. Light weight rucksacks. Most of my kit is old and ex-military at the age of 70

I bought a load of lightweight equipment last year - tent, cookware, sleeping pad. Total game changer but I didn't get as far as upgrading my rucksack, partly because the new tent is so compact that I can get by with a 25 litre rucksack I already have. Previously I was using a 65 litre ex...

Fiskars tools - are they plastic tat?

I've got 3 of the extendable pole pruners. Broke the blades on the first 2 but I've repurposed them for fruit picking etc. I haven't seen anything else as neat but wish the blades were stronger.

    What are you currently reading?

Currently reading A Canticle For Leibowitz which was one of the sources of inspiration for the Fallout franchise. The book opens with a monk scavenging from an underground bunker in a desert in post nuclear apocalypse USA with the looming threat of mutant creatures.

Amazon Prime - Have you quit?

It definitely captures the essence of the game but they've held back a lot of factions/creatures/etc for the next series. Might ditch Prime for a while now because there's not much else on it that interests me and the ads are annoying.

What wildlife did you spot today?

I saw a lizard which is a rare sight for me. The temperature was around 22 C so it scuttled away FAST.
