How much do you pay for your firewood?

I expect it is. Remember we've been using coal domestically for a long time.

A bit of advice on bending a file tang please.

Arc-welding high-carbon steels is supposedly quite tricky.

A bit of advice on bending a file tang please.

Cherry red for bending, else it'll be too easy to change the cross-section. You might have problems with it collapsing at the third hole as you bend it. Not much to be done about that though I'm afraid. Do the end (finger?) curve first, then the big one.

    Christmas Lists

Unfortunately I don't run my own household at the moment. Neither do I think my family would much enjoy me heading to the woods for a few days during the Accursed Time. So I'll find meself a quietish corner to disappear behind a growing rainbow-pile of assorted junk to get lost in a good book...

Battle at Kruger - don't mess with the cows

    Simply stunning.

    Peacoats?

I understand. However it might be worth your while doing regular ePray searces for Filson, Woolrich and other such manufacturers. Watch a few and put in a bid for your budget, less shipping and tax -- you might get it and if not no harm done. Food for thought: http://tinyurl.com/2wrl9km

    Beaded Moosehide:jackets,gloves and mitts

That's some beautiful folkart. Does your wife not learn it from her mother?

    Peacoats?

I love my Filson mac cruiser. Not cheap but it'll last a lifetime and is just as good on the street as in the woods.

My first bushcraft project - a sycamore kuksa

Nice work mate. Gloves don't stop blisters. If you're having a hard time of it check your knife for sharpness. A bit more of this and your hands wiill harden up. Rubbing them with alcohol might help harden them but that might just be an old wives' tale.

    Phonecall from Microsoft?? Dodgy??

This i definitely a scam. A relative of mine fell for it a few months ago. Needless to say they have no error repots and are fishing -- who doesn't have some sort of problem with their Windoze computer?

Using the back of a knife on ferrocerium rod

I tend to just take a fine file whack the knife in a vice, and drawfile the spine square. Looks neater than factory condition and is more functional.

UK's largest stag shot dead on Exmoor

As mentioned earlier venison is usually either very expensive or very inexpensive. Get to know your local deerstalkers ;)

UK's largest stag shot dead on Exmoor

I was curious is all. However since you've brought it up, yes it does. That's why under-18s aren't allowed to vote. I'm going to guess... 14. Says it all really doesn't it. I suspect we'll hear from you again, probably under a different alias.

UK's largest stag shot dead on Exmoor

I support driven bird shoots for any number of reasons, many of which you mentioned. I wrote a letter to my local paper defending them last month. Doesn't mean I want to spend £10,000 per Gun like one recent local shoot.

UK's largest stag shot dead on Exmoor

Are you a member of PETA by any chance? Never heard that one before. Perhaps you could tell me wat contributions to 'nature' the fox makes? The cat? How should I go about performing such an assesment? Steady on old chap you'll do yourself an injury. So you're saying death or unconciousness (and...

UK's largest stag shot dead on Exmoor

There is actually no indication that someone paid to shoot the stag in question -- if it was the emporer that was shot at all. The reported 'facts' don't quite tie up, quel surprise. Remember folks all this anger and vitriol against hunters is based on a news report carefully worded and quoted...

UK's largest stag shot dead on Exmoor

Wondered how long before this was raised... Emotional rhetoric does nothing for your argument. Trophy hunting is a bit like the ridiculously expensive driven bird days; I can't fathom the reason why some people would do it but it has enormous, real, direct benefits to the conservation of the...
