    Blackening/bluing a knife blade

You can still buy the cold blue stuff...I just wondered if things had moved on a bit since I last used it ...in...er ..about 1985. But I had used it to touch up previously blued metal, didn't know if it could be used on bare, untreated metal. But thanks to you guys I shall be giving it a go...

Snugpak fail in the New Forest and knife talk

All my opinion, but I would say that having the baffle extended would have made some difference, even if purely because there would have been more volume to heat. However, and this is my real cruncher, I have never slept well in cold weather in any bag that has stated that it is good for temps...

    Blackening/bluing a knife blade

Thanks Red, From what Jojo said I thought I'd have a bash at this first and see how it turned out. The other thought I had was sand blasting for a matt/satin finish, but I think it will be the bluing to start off with. Thanks again Sack

Protein is fine guys, but without everything else...you would die. If you ate nothing but rabbit you would die. Sounds odd, but true. A balanced diet is essential for longevity.

How did you come to Bushcraft UK

I was searching for info on the Snugpak Response Pack...found all sorts of great kit photos and threads. Was a lurker for a couple of years then signed up for membership. Love this place. ATB Sack

    Blackening/bluing a knife blade

Hi All Now I know I will probably get lynched...but I'm an honest sort of bloke, and I must profess a liking for a slightly more 'tacticool' feel to my kit...[pauses for carved bone arrowheads to pierce flesh] ;) ...As such I was wondering if anyone might give me some tips/pointers as to how...

    Western books

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edge_the_Loner Try these. Modern writing with an adult outlook rather than the 'Boys Own' style of many others. Violent and gritty, but aint going to win a Pulitzer! ;) Sack

    doomsdayers/preppers

Did none of you ever watch 'Survivors'? either in the 70s or the recent BBC series? http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p005tq95 A lot of what some of you are talking about was shown (sometimes quite graphically). And, not that I am preaching...but, for those of you that advocate stealing or...

    Could you live in this?

Inbetween moving houses a couple of years ago we decided to rent because the house that we were moving too was not yet ready for habitation!...It was only supposed to be for a month or two...so we rented a small two bed house for our family of five and Retriever. My wife and I had decided that...

    Another Filme Re-make - " The Thing "

It might be a prequel in terms of the story, but there are definitely scenes in the film that are taken directly from Carpenters version.

    Cramps

Wise words from John, Shewie. You say that you have plenty of salt in your diet, but if you drink too much, and I mean hydrate...not booze ;), you will dilute your body's salts...which can actually be fatal. I don't know how much water you drink mate, but it is another thing to think about...

    doomsdayers/preppers

BIG LOL This thread has really made me smile. No matter how old we get, some folk just can't let something go. We still want to 'square up' in the playground ;) I suppose that's one of the joys of text based reasoning. But, to comment on the OP, I think post #2 mentioned the...

British army arctic sleeping bag length

Sorry Highfield but that's rubbish. I have had two mediums and I'm 5'11 and somewhere between 15 and 16 st. ;) Admittedly you would struggle at 6' but anything under 5'10 would be no problem. Conversely, at 5'6 in a large bag you would have a huge cold spot at the foot of the bag. Sack
