    Getting To Lewis

Reasonably close to Calanais(sp) is the broch at Dun Carloway (sp) and the old blackhouse village of Garinen - an open air museum where they have preserved the old houses. It was the last villiage of its kind on Lewis, the people only moving out into new housing in the 70s (please - anyone with...

Bear Grylls To Be New Chief Scout!

Unless forced by their parents, what a kid thinks about Scouts is the prime thing that determines if they join or not. That opinion can come from many sources: friends who are scouts already, family members involved, or what they hear on the school grapevine. Their opinion in this case actually...

Volunteering for a local scout troop

Harmonica - I was in the same position in 2000, when I first volunteered. Wallens advice is good and accurate. If you can, do it, you'll get a lot out of helping (at any level), and extra pairs of hands (especially with skills) are ALWAYS welcome.

Bear Grylls To Be New Chief Scout!

I'm content with this. The Chief scout these days is seems to have 2 roles: firstly to be an outward face for the movement, and secondly to be an inspiration to the young members/prospective members. If he can do that - keeping momentum built up under Peter Duncan - then I'll be happy.

Look What We Found! - Pouched Grub

Well, it's not exactly a new range (unless they've revamped it), but I can vouch that they ARE good, you CAN heat them up in a pan of water over a stove, and their customer service is great. No connection to the company (etc), just a satisfied customer.
