    A small rod..

@stonepark thanks very much for this really comprehensive advice and for your kind offer - I will send a PM. I would much prefer that there is less damage to any small ones I put back so this will improve things in every way. @slowworm thank you, barbless hooks are what I need. Losing some is a...

    A small rod..

Broch, I am not sure that I could do that. I think I would remove only what I had to in order to use my paddle to get home! I'm trying to think through the scenario and plan for it - particularly making sure what I need is easily accessible with either hand. I've seen reports of people catching...

    A small rod..

Thanks Russ, I did wonder if a net would be good - I will Google dip net. I could secure it under the decklines. Is this the kind of wire cutter you would recommend? I'm only familiar with fencing ones which are obviously heavy heavy duty. I got my line in a tangle with multiple fish before I...

    A small rod..

Please excuse my novice ignorance! I have very minimal experience but am a mackerel enthusiast and have caught some from my kayak, I hope for a few more this year and maybe some more eatable sized pollock. However, I am a bit of a klutz with hooks (lodged in the shoulder of my buoyancy aid...

Anyone a fan of tinned fish?

    1. Gently sauté the following - one (or two) tins of anchovies, garlic, juice of at least ½ a lemon, chilli flakes, season with pepper, stirring to meld it all together in a saucy dressing 2. Finely slice and steam cabbage 3. Cook pasta 4. Mix the anchovy dressing through and eat. Food heaven!

    Hand Sewing Kit

I'm putting together a sewing kit and would really appreciate recommendations for good tools - shears, needles, thread etc for hand-sewing everyday clothing please. I have done a bit of leatherwork in the past and appreciate that the right materials and equipment makes a difference. I might...

What wildlife did you spot today?

A sea eagle flew above the house this morning. All the geese scarpered and I expected the eagle to move on since there was nothing to interest it, I was so sure it was about to leave that I stubbornly didn't go inside to get binoculars. In fact it circled and glided for 15 minutes, the sun...

We are blessed with a great landscape. I am biased of course but I have to agree :) though she is also a sofa hogging mud sponge who rarely looks this dignified!

:D That is really kind! But don't encourage me, I have hundreds of photos of my reluctant muse and can find a way to incorporate her into any category! She blends seamlessly into most backgrounds, ideal for playing spot the dog, or 'Where's Molly'? A game that can be easy or slightly more...

    Metal detectors

Thank you very much for suggestions and advice. @Nice65 budget but decent is exactly the category we are looking for, I will take advantage of your research and go for the Minelab Vanquish 340. Permission is fortunately not an obstacle as mum works a wee hill farm - you can see why she will...

Thank you, I don't think there is one unfortunately.

    Metal detectors

Could anyone recommend a metal detector please? My 80yr old mum is giving up the bulk of her work responsibilities and I need to keep her out of mischief, she has expressed interest in having a metal detector. There is a lot of old (including bronze age) archaeology around us, so we wouldn't go...

Thank you! Yours is very atmospheric. My dog is my favourite subject - she doesn't enjoy it as much as I do so best when she is looking the other way!!
