This thread is making me dizzy now...
I see people really pushing the PSKs and people like myself finding them a little redundant... "lost in the hills in extreme weather"... so you're telling me that you went for a bimble up a mountain with nothing other than your tobacco tin?
"Button compass...
@Minotaur
We have biodegrable doggo bags, we don't go for anything scented generally because they're also a handy container for a handful of food for the day, or if we need a bowl (we'd normally have one on long walks) you can hold the handles and fill a bag up with water and our little hound...
I think perhaps if I (and others) approach this from a very personal (not intimate :woot: ) point of view then it'll probably make more sense I guess.
I live in a city. I work obscenely close to home, so I have no EDC (other than dog doo bags which I always have :lol: ) I have no PSK...why do I...
@Paul_B
The difference being with nuclear is that it requires a human for it to be used (unless malfunctions count...)
This is the talk of a computer or algorithm deciding to use it.
@TeeDee, I suppose I would liken AI to the introduction of a man made disease or a virus that was created with...
@Lean'n'mean
I don't know about where you're from, but the kamikaze bugs are still around when I drive... in our van my wife when a passenger has the unfortunate position thats not quite covered by the wipers..
As for butterflies, we see some by our flowers but I suppose not loads. Because...
@Ozmundo
Precisely, and no tobacco tin with a rubber, snare, or fishing kit could get people out of those situations...
Additionally, I remain unconvinced that someone in a typical walk of life should consider ANY PSK as their lifeline, whatever country you're in...
I can understand in a...
@neoaliphant
I think what I'm referring to is that a PSK is being talked about as if it's something that one walks around carrying all the time, with this "expect the unexpected" sort of chat... my point is how does one carry it on their person with general life... I mean does one really need a...
Had a thought, apologies if it's already been covered... we all seem to be talking about AI as if it's a human vs AI situation... we are all quite divided across the globe...culture clashes etc...
Could AI be coded to learn what is best not for the human race, but for individual countries or...
I would say a PSK is somewhat redundant in most places...are you going to carry around a tobacco tin with a bunch of trinkets you've never really had the experience in using? Why and where is it stored? If its in your pack, then what makes it specifically more useful than anything and everything...
Crimean-Congo Haemmoragic fever (spelling?), seems its spread through contact of bodily fluids a smidge more intimately spread virus I presume, or spread where basic hygeinic practices or access to clean things is harder. I don't see it as a concern for the moment.
As for a PSK... I don't carry...
@Paul_B
I do understand that... I suppose what I meant is humans wouldn't have made that particular decision... for example the inventor of a missile did not choose the target or collateral that it destroys, so there is a larger degree of separation and a larger case of "well, the computer...
Yeah.... but you're looking at the topics almost very black and white. For example Nuclear is the "topic"... it's applications are the questionable, medicines, tech etc = good... warheads = bad.
So AI? Medicines etc = good, connections to military =?= bad? What about AI connected to nuclear...
Whilst we may have covered this in other words, forget AI and our morals, if the whole thing continues to learn, is there a way it can learn to override the permanent laws we create for it..? What is the biggest threat to AI? Humans.... Could it learn that for its own survival that wiping us out...
Totally agree with this! Interestingly (may have been covered before) but that ties in exactly with the title of this, i robot....the whole premise was machines rising up against humans because their one of their unbreakable rules was to keep humans safe, so it decided that humans were incapable...
Sigh, it's exactly that kind of thinking that got our future generations into trouble that made them have to send back Arnold Schwartzenegger to fix things...!
