I did a weekends course with Joe O'Leary last October and thoroughly enjoyed it. Location was set up well.

I did a debris shelter and a lean too with my ACF detachment. Each takes about an hour. Recycle the debris shelter into the lean too for frugal use of resource.

I don't really know. A traditional Parang isn't very thick and the 01 choppers I have are all like oversized Kukri rather than a machete even. Blade thickness doesn't quite work out.

I have to say that I favour a Parang over an axe. I just find I'm more accurate with it.
Not usually felling trees but cutting back poles and underbrush, processing limbs that sorry of thing. Not going to split rounds with it usually. It's just a better tool for the job IMO.

Certainly not ultralight hiking with my bushcraft kit.
If I have a base camp I'm not too fussed about a bit of bulk or weight. The skill is being comfortable wherever I choose to pitch up.
Wool blankets allow me to regulate my temperature, I don't have that scratchy zippy noise to disturb me...
I actually prefer wool blankets now. I started using them inside my Wynnchester Adventure Bag so that I could take advantage of the whole space. I'm not keen on being confined by a bag so blankets men I can stick a leg out if I get too hot.
