    What Head Torch???

I was a bit disappointed with my Alpkit Gamma but it is pretty good for the money. I have now replaced it with a Crelant CH10 http://www.banggood.com/CREE-XML2-LED-460Lum-Headlight-Headlamp-Torch-Outdoor-p-929348.html Similar price to the Alpkit but you have to factor in for 18650...

    Knife making from a file

Farriers Rasps are good for a large knife and are not too thick. They are generally about 5 x 45 x 350 They make a good camp knife. They are variable in quality from make to make. I have found Save Edge and Bassoli to be OK. If you know someone who has horses they will likely find you a few...

    Making a file knife...

An alternative way to test a file (without snapping the end off) is to cut off the tang (with a hacksaw or cutting disc if it is too hard) and try hardening it. I find it easier to temper the file to 59/60Rc suitable for a knife and then grind it hard though you will struggle to do it this way...

Making stick tang handles on a lathe?

I dont think it would be a very useful shape and I am not sure I have ever seen such a handle. An oval/rectangular handle is better for control as it is less likely to slip round and you can feel which way the knife sits in your hand.

Stick tangs and Full tangs. Advantages and Disadvantages

The historical popularity of stick tangs could be because the design lends itself to ancient/preferred/available manufacturing methods. Stick tang construction makes sense if you are forging a knife, also it uses less steel and would therefore be more economic when steel was relatively...

White Rose Wood July - Picture Heavy

It was good to come and say hello and I would like to stay longer next time. Will try and bring tent, food and beer. It might be difficult explaining to my wife why I would want to camp in the woods and s#@t in a bucket less than a mile from home but I will work on it. Thanks and looking...

My new mode of bushcraft transportation.

Those racks are notorious for snapping, I have seen a few broken ones with far far less weight than you have in the picture. You would be much better off with a normal rack though obviously you cant on that bike. If you are riding off road it can be better to carry your gear in a back pack...

    Zeiss bins under 100 quid

I have a pair of Zeiss Jena 8 x 30s I picked up at a charity shop. Paid £20 and they are in very good nick. They can go for silly money on E-bay. Also have a pair of Russian Gnus which are so rugged they have survived about 5 years living on the floor of the car - no case or lens caps. They...
