    What’s burrowing under my shed?

Not much, really. It looks like something has been digging around the garden, though we do have a huge population of squirrels in the trees behind the house. Our neighbours recently had a major rat issue. We ended up trapping a dozen using the diving fence line as a run, which is why I’m...

    What’s burrowing under my shed?

I’m thinking it’s probably a rat. Any other thoughts before I get the trap out?

So whos getting lots of snow, and who's out in it?

Unfortunately, Oldham seems to be making the news at the moment and it’s never positive. Saddleworth is still lovely, but has become increasingly popular with lots of trendy bars popping up. I still love the place. The hills, the moorland, the wildness.

So whos getting lots of snow, and who's out in it?

Unfortunately not. I wish we could afford Uppermill. We are based in Springhead, on the border with Austerlands.

So whos getting lots of snow, and who's out in it?

A decent dusting over night in Saddleworth, but nothing dramatic!

Can anyone recommend a good woodcarving set?

I have been inspired by some of the fantastic recent wood carvings (Wayland, etc) and want to get a set of small carving chisels to add some detail to my own efforts. Any recommendations? I have been looking at the Axminster set, but it’s potentially a bit more than I need.

    Stars in the sky

Interestingly, that’s not a street light. It’s just trees and scrub land behind the houses. I didn’t even notice it last night. I don’t know if it’s a solar light on a shed, but I’m going to try and see if it’s around tonight.

    Stars in the sky

Thank you for pointing a few objects out, Kepis. I’m going to dig the binoculars out and see what else I can spot. I have also ordered Turn Left at Orion today.

Excellent! Thank you for the recommendation, Chris.

    Stars in the sky

Ahh, thank you. I had thought the other bright object was Sirius, but as Kepis said, that’s Jupiter.

    Stars in the sky

It was a beautiful night last night. I wandered out at 11.30pm and the sky was so clear, with so many stars visible. I quickly grabbed a picture with my phone as I’m keen to learn more about the night sky. Is the bright start Sirius? I feel like I can make out Canis Major, but this could be my...

I’m guilty of not posting much, but I browse the forum everyday. I like the mix of conversation. It’s a nice place to be.

    Watering system for Greenhouse

When I go away for a week I just sit them in trays of water. Tends not to cause any issues until fruiting (when they can split). Did exactly that last week and came back to triffids.

    What are you growing?

How’s everyone getting on this year? I’m growing tomatoes, cucumbers (need much bigger pots), and lots of soft fruit.

What beekeeping related activities did you do recently?

We had a nice prime swarm land in some of our equipment on Saturday. A lovely marked Buckfast queen that someone will definitely be missing. It was a slow start to the season, but everything is kicking off now. We manage around 15 apiary sites, so rushing to get round them all before they...

    Incubating poultry

Morning. It has been an interesting journey with the quail. From the four we initially hatched, three turned out to be cocks. As soon as they reached sexual maturity they started fighting, quickly leading to the death of one (it happened to quickly and was a blood bath). After that I separated...
