    Winter is coming.

My area on yellow warning for high winds 30mph+ and up to 50cm of rain. Arrrgh! I've got my inflatable canoe ready, I'm picking up my new wellies tomorrow, (I forgot today) and then I'll hunker down in case I get a bit wet, or hit by a windblown leaf. Must take these warnings seriously. ...

    Chest Infections.

It could be copd, and get your heart checked out too. My best friend's son began having similar issues last August and it turns out that he had an infection in a heart valve. Now awaiting replacement He's in his mid 40s and has never smoked, though had multiple jibby jabs due to his father...

    Is it me?

I've been here a few years now, and I've had my ups and downs on the forum. ! I like to think I've settled down a bit now that I'm coping better with some real curved balls that life threw at me. We never know what people are coping with in their personal lives, which can affect how they come...

Quick review: Thermarest Neoloft sleeping pad.

Oh that looks like total luxury! I still loose my pillow, even with the elastic strap. I may look at making a separate cover with two elastic straps like yours. I still prefer my special floofy camping cushion that I use as a pillow. Not always packable tho.!

Planning a Wild Camp in Dartmoor - Sleeping Gear Questions!

Yep, those cheap mats are too thin to provide much insulation and are too narrow, only any good for drunk idiots at festivals! I still use a foam mat under my inflatable bed. Extra insulation and a back up if I get a leak. I'm old and creaky, so need the inflatable bed aswell. My preference is...

    What did you buy today?

Yet another wool blanket..Well a throw really. Only £2.00 this time. It was in the dog blanket box. A bit wiffy! But a good hand wash has solved that problem. (Bit of a wrestle, but I managed it) It's Scottish wool. Just hope I can get it properly dry now the weather is not so warm and sunny.

Planning a Wild Camp in Dartmoor - Sleeping Gear Questions!

I'd suggest finding a local ex military supplier or go online and order an army foam mat at the very least. If it's good enough for the military, it will be good enough for you. They are not expensive, and after a good tent , a good mat is the next most important investment. I've spent many...

Planning a Wild Camp in Dartmoor - Sleeping Gear Questions!

A good r value mat is more important than anything after your tent. If I'm hiking, a 3 season down bag is usualy warm enough and saves on bulk and weight. Use your water bottle wrapped in a sock for a hot water bottle, or a couple of those cheap handwarmers, can warm the bag up nicely before you...

    What did you buy today?

A dozen new kilt pins for £2.00 from my lovely charity shop. Perfect to make a wool sleeping bag without having to cut a lovely blanket up. A dozen kilt pins for £2.00 is a bargain in anyone's book as they are about £2.00each.

    Winter is coming.

Many power cuts all around me, but we stayed on grid in my area. Barely noticed a thing, apart from being a bit blowy and some heavy rain overnight. Canoeists are having a brilliant day on the swollen River today.

    Deodorising boots

Dust feet with cuticura medicated talc, and wear wool socks, every time you use them, once you've given them the Toddy treatment. A little shake of the talc inside the boots when you are not using them keeps them sweet.

    Time and Crafts

    Winter is coming.

Woke to sunshine, bit blowy, had to hold on to my hat a few times on the waddle into town, river is up, so we must have had a bit of heavy rain on the top of the moor, but other than that, nothing major.

    Winter is coming.

So far, in my little valley, just a bit of wind and rain. Nothing more than normal late autumn/early winter bad weather. It's not over yet tho, and could get worse. Nothing like up north tho. Keep safe .

    Weather to come.......

I've been madly washing clothes in an attempt to get them all dry on the line before the deluge. Looks like my new second hand goretex jacket will get a workout, and I've just rewaterproofed my leather boots, as the gun shop hasn't yet had their delivery of wellies. I ordered over a week...

    What did you buy today?

Yesterday at the last farmers market of the year, there was a lady selling herbal teas, and advertising a herbal worshop, I bought some dried herbs I don't have, paper tea bags and the workshop in herbalism. Not until November. Its rare to find any affordable courses or workshops round here...
