    What are you growing?

I reckon it would be an excellent idea. Some ideas for plants. Bush beans. I like purple tipi, interesting colour but serve up green when cooked so no weird colours on your plate, very decorative growing. Radishes. Baby beetroot. Can't remember the name but there is a deep purple leaved...

    What are you growing?

Is anyone helping/encouraging their friends and neighbours to grow things? Today I took rosemary herb cuttings and split up some chives to set one friend on his way with a pot herb garden, we also built a tomato grow house and put up some hanging basket brackets so he can grow tomatoes and...

    South West meet up

I'm slightly underwhelmed at the response so far. No interest or suggestions?

    What are you growing?

Funnily enough, my 3 sisters garden works very well. , but the brassica are always a disaster! I've got all my sprouting jars in full swing. I managed to find some biosnacky sprouting jars in the charity shop a few years ago, before that, I used old gherkin jars..the big ones with some old...

    What are you growing?

I made a kimchi garden a couple of years ago in a couple of large pots. Chinese cabbage, mooli radishes and carrots. I had some dried chillis which I had grown the year before, so then I could make my own kimchi. An idea if you like Asian food. Doesn't have to be in a pot, it was just that I...

    Let's see your dog

Oh don't encourage me! Given half a chance I'd have a houseful of pups.

    Let's see your dog

I don't have my own dog now, but I have many local dogs I'm an auntie to. Here is Charlie, a beautiful rescue from abroad somewhere. Hes waiting nicely for his treat.

    What are you growing?

Got my shallots in today, broad bean, and rocket seeds started off in pots, and also some basil. It was rather wet today, so gave up on any further plantings, but potatoes are chitting nicely and garlic, which ive brought on indoors due to being unwell over the Xmas period, are ready to be...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

I hear you, and agree. But I'd rather be over caution nowadays than blasé about things.

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Very true, especially nowadays. Women are being assaulted and robbed in many places daily, on a scale that we've never seen before. I felt relatively safe in the past, even hitch hiking round Europe in my twenties..not without several dodgy moments!, but I've always had a good situational...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

It's easy to be cynical if you are a fit man. I'm a female and a pensioner with limited mobility. I cant run and any physical confrontation with a man nowadays would not go in my favour. (In the past, a different story) I'm not paranoid, or scared, just very aware, with a decent survival instinct!

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Better to be safe and act on your gut instincts than ignore them and find yourself in a dodgy situation that could be seriously damaging to oneself. I could tell you about many occasions where I've felt uneay, and moved away, to be later proved right. Just a couple of instances. One of them...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

So why did he stop following me when I went back to Ray? Why did he give me an annoyed look and disappear when he realised I wasn't alone? My trolly was almost empty, and my bag was in the trolly, I didn't have a coat on, just jeans and a wool jumper, no pockets. The store detectives are easily...

    What did you buy today?

A pair of spare filters for the new berkfeld water filter. Almost bought yet another swandri coat, but at over £200 I thought better of adding to my collection. I've spent far too much this month already and we are not halfway through the month yet. They should realy stop bringing out new...

    WHAT DID YOU MAKE TODAY?

Rescued what I could out of my old grow house( which I replaced yesterday, )and repurposed it into a small log store for my smaller logs, to keep them dry by the back door, in easy reach.

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Maybe all those ufo/drone sightings there last year, were a dry run, and as nothing happened it's the cry wolf scenario. Trust nothing they say and meanwhile look after you and yours. Live your best life, and be kind to those less able or fortunate than yourself. Live life as you would want...

    South West meet up

Well, just to let potential meeters know, the Newton about, south west bushcraft show isn't happening this year, maybe will go ahead next year. So.. let's think again. Is mid exmoor too far for most people. I know of a large, relatively cheap camp site(4 fields) Riverside and fires allowed...

    Spring anyone ?

Yesterday was back to winter, 4 ° ,even snow localy. This morning sunny and back to average temps. Gooseberry bushes are beginning to leaf , as are the elders, Tulips are now showing nicely and will be in flower soon. Almost time to hunt out t shirts and sandals, and put the thermals and...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Could still be what you saw, I doubt they'd only spent 30 mins of travel on such an exercise. Where were they coming from or going to? We don't know. What gets me is the way it draws attention to a high security operation. Defies logic. There are so many white vans on the road, another on its...
