Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Much depends upon expectation. I'm a bit older & remember when fewer than 10% of people went to university and a normal, working class household: Almost certainly rented their home with no expectation of ever buying Had no car Had no central heating Had no freezer Never went abroad Used a...

    Why a Swiss Army Knife.

I use crown caps on the beer I make & can food in Mason jars so both are useful to me. If you prefer Door Dash & Uber Eats then I suppose they are

    Why a Swiss Army Knife.

Ranger. With plus scales I added. I need a wood saw, scissors (fantastic on cable ties), small blade (feed sacks), large blade (parcels, bailer twine), pin (splinters), tweezers (thorns & splinters), biro, bottle opener (liquid refreshment). My scales are bright yellow so I don't lose it!

The difference would appear to be that it's harder to ignore.

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

I suppose the question could be asked today. How do you feel about all the people who die of malnutrition, lack of clean water, basic sanitation or rudimentary healthcare? People die every day of things we could prevent, but choose not to.

The 'I've found a bargain' thread

No idea but when you can buy NiMH rechargeables for £1 a battery, who cares? I use a LOT of AAs so keep plenty of these, they work fine for me

    Excellent Kydex Worker

I don't do much Bushcraft as such now, but I carry and use knives every day. About 15 years ago, Duncan (@FGYT ) was kind enough to give me a super little knife which had lines modelled after the stunning PFK that @Stuart Mitchell Knives made for me FGYT knife by English Countrylife, on Flickr...

Who's successfully changed career later in life?

I've changed from senior Programme Management into "Gig economy" work. I am, simultaneously A smallholder A magazine columnist A YouTuber A public speaker An influencer (really) Many other things too If you aren't happy, change. Life is too damned short to do things that aren't fulfilling

    Portland Ultralites

Now you see I'm thinking here. I was talking to Mark about the need for a 90(F) as a B&T. 140 or even 120 is too much knife for the birds we process. I would like thinner too. 1.5mm or 2.... STOP you are dragging me back in

    "Small Forest Axe" budget interpretation

Hanging axes is always a game. I find that shaping the section of the helve that goes in the eye with a wood rasp really helped me, I can see the tight spots & it removes material in a very controlled way

Silky Bigboy Outback Edition or Agawa Canyon Boreal 21 Folding Bucksaw

Hi Biffa, I process a lot of wood. For a log cabin, if you are determined on a hand saw, try a crosscut saw. They don't have to be massive & there are one man versions. Much more capable on bigger logs...
