    AliExpress decent cheap outdoor gear?

I agree, I'm not overly happy with buying from China but if I buy a similar item in the UK it's going to be made there anyway. If you are going to buy something made there then it would be good to get.something that lasts.

    Water outages

It's worth pointing out when the aluminium sulphate was added to the water supply in Camelford the company was in public ownership. I'm not sure the ownership model had much to do with the incident though. Personally, as we don't get mains water here I'm not a fan of nationalising the water...

Why is Royal Mail so rubbish

Does it say that? IIRC my RM tracking says it normally delivers between X and Y, Y often being after 4. I had a delivery by RM on Saturday and it was past the latest estimate time but I was grateful I got it on the day and felt sorry for the postie with all the parcels he has at this time of...

Why is Royal Mail so rubbish

I meant the postage element on an order can't be much and covers air fare, customs checks etc. My post was out of curiosity though, not condoning them. I've had the odd dodgy delivery in the past but most have been fine. Even had a Yodel delivery yesterday without any problems! I'm not a fan...

    Natural Cordage

Interesting you say small leaved lime. I planted small and large leaved limes on my wood about 12 years ago and they've grown into some very nice trees. They are now shading out their lower branches which are dying off and the outer bark is falling away leaving strands of bast. It's very easy to...

Why is Royal Mail so rubbish

If you're not in and don't have anywhere for the parcel to be left what do you expect to happen? I'm at the opposite end, house on its own with a long drive. I know the drivers don't get much for each delivery so I leave an obvious lidded box at the top of the drive so parcels can be quickly...

Why is Royal Mail so rubbish

I've found the opposite. Royal Mail in general are very good, tracking if fine and parcels turn up when expected. Evri used to be ok until the good delivery driver left and now our route seems to he without a driver so often items are not delivered for several days. Last item took 12 days and...

Tips to stop sock from slipping down

I was going to say garter, or double sided tape! There does seem to be various little elasticated small belt type options which may work. I'd start off with well fitting socks, easier said than done for me as I'm right between the too big and too small measurement of 8.5 - 9.

What wildlife did you spot today?

We've had a few flying about in the last week. But your pic reminds me to plant a few mahonias for their winter flowers. We have a few plants like gorse and winter honeysuckle that bees visit over winter if they're active but it would be nice to add a few more.

    Water outages

I'd agree you would need to know what's in the water before it's filtered and what's in it after its filtered, not just to see what's removed but also if anything unwanted is added. I've just been servicing my ram pump today and noted how much sediment was in the header tank for it. If your...

    Water outages

I looked that up and it seems not in this country. I do try to try to buy organic produce but the shops down here have reduced their ranges, it's very hard to get organic milk for example. But even if you don't spread it on your land directly you may still be contaminated. That's.our issue, we...

    What did you buy today?

Picked up a seamless tall 12cm stainless diameter steel pot for £1.50 in a charity shop. Should be ideal as a container to melt wax for dipping candles in.

I've never been 'logged in as another' but if I go to the forum main page it shows me as not logged in here: https://bushcraftuk.com/community/ I always access the site via a link to here: https://bushcraftuk.com/community/whats-new/ and that never gives me problems.

    Water outages

Thanks for that. I've moaned about this sort of thing a few times on here but I'm not sure many people know much about it. In my experience some of the problems are known and understood by the EA but there is little monitoring or enforcement. It's not just fields and waterways that are...

    Hand dipped candles

It's 1500 / 15 so 100 candles, or a few less allowing for a bit of wick top and bottom, then P&P on top. Still good value if you have your own beeswax. I'm considering a bulk order of a 1.5 km spool...

    Hand dipped candles

That's actually a very good question. I gather some people can struggle with beeswax but I've always used a suitable wick and they burn very well; cleanly, bright and with no wax dripping if there's no strong draft. I uses this WickWell NT, the smaller NT14, 17 and 20 all seem to perform...
